Hope she made it, its miserable weather in Lincoln right now.
haha 🙂
is it just me or was the shuttleworth sea hurricane not in battle of britain markings?
I have stuck up for ‘the few’ so far and I still do as it has yet to come out and maybe we will be surprised but ,having just switched on tv only to be confronted by Ben Affleck’s “Hammer down!!!!” cries in Pearl Harbour, I can see why people, Snapper etc, are so sceptical. Total rubbish, i think i prefer Ron Goodwin to the sounds of “Hammer Down”!
By the way, the Aircraft in the BoB sequence in harbour had Eagle Sqn motifs on the side of the aircraft, is this authentic for that period?
It will be because it will be for an American audience – they won’t want to see a film in which their guy doesn’t feature to prominantly (due to historical accuracy) or anything about the training of 71Sqn, which will be boring.
They will want to see the hun falling from the sky in droves, the heroes best mate getting shot down by a fiendish Nazi (maybe crash landing at base so that the hero can make a valiant but sadly unsuccessful attempt to save him from the flames), the comely barmaid/nurse/WAAF (who might played by Catherine Zeta Jones or some yank actress with a lame accent) who reassures him that war is a necessity, the CO who doesn’t believe in ‘our’ hero (and since this is a Hollywood production he might be the token black actor…), the boyish fair-haired newby who worships the hero, and the fight to the death final battle against the fiendish Nazi (Ralph Fiennes? Alan Rickman? Liam Neeson?) in a gin-clear sky over Big Ben and Tower Bridge.
You know its true.Flood.
🙂 Haha, would Brian Blessed be the local barman at the pub between sorties?
“Money?”, yeah sure, money is part of everything but his track record proves he has taken on jobs due to personnel interest or strong narratives.
If the film turns out to make Billy Fiske something he was not and if History is changed then believe me I will have the same contempt as youb guys are showing now. Im happy to wait and see what it turns out like, it may turn out just as you say but who knows.
But the story WILL be bull****, so what can he do?
how do you know? seen a script yet? Until a firm synopsis of the plot is out in the open then i refuse to write it off. It may well end up being rubbish but im prepared to give it a chance. As for what a director can do, IF the story is rubbish, I’d look at it in the respect of, if the story is so rubbish, why would a director of his nature sign up to it? (if indeed it is true)

Great Pictures Pete, glad to see that she is being looked after as best as she can be.

If Michael Mann is involved, as is reported, then i wouldn’t have the worries expressed here. He has a proven track record in regards of authenticity in his films and also the intelligence of these pictures too. I think before we all shoot our mouths off about what Hollywood will do next then we should remember that not every war film that hollywood has made has rewritten history and that films like Pearl Harbour were never going to be anything other than what they turned out to be, it was directed by Michael Bay afterall!
As for Memphis Belles treatment by Hollywood, it was in fact put together by a joint us and uk team and was directed by a Scot and produced by Lord Puttnam and the daughter of original belle filmaker,Catherine Wyler. To secure a budget for a film of Belle’s scale then you need to convince those with the money that your film will make a handsome return on the investment. What is better; no film or a film that takes some artistic licence but preserves the basic story and treats the orginal heroes of the raid (albeit under different names) with great respect? In an ideal world the Belle story would have been completely accurate but lets face it, it would never have secured funding so at least this way the warbird industry got a few pounds, the story was told and a few people will go away knowing a little more about the sacrifice made by the brave Allied Bomber crews.
IMHO of course.

When I was at Hendon earlier in the year, I was absolutely gobsmacked to see those panels. They are so hard to see. On an unlit wall and as station357 says, without captions too.
Im refraining from another Hendon Whinge 🙂
anyone know what time the lanc is displaying at waddington on sunday?
Avro Anson at Woodford?

As far as invasion stripes are concerned that means flat (or satin) paint and straight lines. A yard brush may have been used in 1944 but on a £1m warbird today that just looks like someone did not care.
were any d-day aircraft painted with neat masked areas or were all hastily done just before, if the answer is that none were were done neatly then it is simply a case that a lot of warbird schemes are unaccurate. A lot of people here complain of Hollywood rewriting history, well it would seem that we arn’t so innocent over here either.

i like the fact that one of the extras is an ‘intro to the spitfire’, sounds like filler to me. I cant imagine the kind of people buying this looking at the special features and thinking “oooh, just what I needed, an intro to the spitfire, sounds like a nice plane” 🙂
sounds like a great dvd. one to add to the ‘wants’ list
There is, it is called ‘Wrecks and Relics’, edited by Ken Ellis. Comes out about every two years I think. Anyone know which edition we are on, 19th?
and that would be?
Welcome back Andrewman, Anyone who can post that deserves a second chance and maybe a third 😉
I believe not many saw the post of last night as I think it has been deleted now. Obviously what you said was strong and not very nice but i did sympathise with your position. I only hope that the behaviour towards yourself was apologised for in an equally humble way as that in which you have apologised tonight.
Here’s a toast to more optimistic posts regardings Buccaneers 🙂
