RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
I must admit i did enjoy Microsoft Flight Simulator until my computer became too outdated 🙂 I had an RAF 80th anniversary add on kit but the aircraft did none of the “animated” things suggested here 🙂

RE: Lancaster Night Runs.

ps- how about adding “leave the windbreakers at home” onto the back of those tickets 😉
RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
Does anybody think that many of todays simulations, whether air based or land, can be pretty tasteless.
There is one “shoot-em-up” (medal of honour, it may be called) where you can take part in the d-day landings!!!
Im not a big fan of these kind of games, i think they trivialise the events they are meant to portray. I think the flight sims are a bit better but even some of these can be quite tasteless.

RE: Lancaster Night Runs.
i COMPLETELY agree moggy. Media can’t replace the actual experience.
i remember once using a Camcorder at an airshow on the Lancaster to catch its display routine, it spoilt the experience so i never bothered again. At least with still images you can set up the camera beforehand, take a few well thought out photographs and then enjoy the rest of the experience.
By doing this i can combine by uni studies with an interest which is better than photographing something im not remotely interested in 🙂
best regards, steve
RE: Lancaster Night Runs.
i study photography and video so im afraid i need to be looking through a viewfinder 😉

RE: ‘Night Flight’-The Verdict
I’d been wondering how the BBC would create a lanc squadron with just the East Kirkby Lanc and I thought that the effort the BBC made with some of those shots was incredible, this was probably due to the fact that instead of computer generating lancasters from scratch, they ‘copied and pasted’ just jane several times over. Some of those shots were better than what you would see in a Hollywood movie.
As for the programme itself, i thought it dragged slightly but was very interesting nonetheless.
Would have loved to have been there to see the tail up runs. I was talking to one of the team at East Kirkby last Monday when i visited the lanc ( minus her port inner merlin at the moment ) and he said there are no plans for any more at the moment.

RE: Re.surviving Lanc bits
Snoopy, Not found too much i’m afraid, 9 squadron had the lanc from Aug 42-Jul 46 having previously used the wellington. During this period moving from Waddington to Bardney then to India ( Salbani )and back to Binbrook, no dates im afraid though.

RE: Lancasters lost in Russia
Peter, a small section of the mid-fusealage still exists. It is part of the Newark Air Museum . It is a nine squadron lancaster, serial W4964, which was part of the raid on the tirpitz. Several years ago the BBMF lancaster flew in these colours with Johnny Walker nose art.

RE: PA474
Personally i think that she’ll be going strong for another decade but after that i’d hate to speculate. Where would she go when grounded? would the BBMF hanger become a static museum, would she go to Cosford or perhaps would the RAF let a private operator take her over?
RE: Picture of the day 25/11/01
Can answer one of your questions if it helps, snoopy. It’s one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hurri’s ( PZ865 ), flew in that scheme a few seasons ago. Now flies in, correct me if im wrong, South East Asia markings.
PS, love the picture. any Just Jane Lanc photos?
