The crew may have gone out of hours but on a Miami I would doubt it particularly with a relief crew in place. I should imagine the reason to be the questioning of the other crew members with regard to the deportment of the suspect.

In my limited legal knowledge he probably has a strong case because he was relief crew and wasn’t required for duty for some time after departure. How can the authorities tell exactly what his blood alcohol level would be at that time.

While I don’t condone flying while drunk, I am totally against the media furore that surrounds any suspected case when it comes to light. Sensationalism sells papers but ruins lives too.

Someone early on in the thread mentioned a bloke being clotheslined by a cub. I found it while looking at something else completely.

Sorry if someone found it earlier.

The Armlong Whitworth is not an attractive aircraft is it. It would have been the first plane I knew as that is what the old man flew when I was born.

I find it amazing to see how such large aircraft got airborne with such tiny engines!

    You’re thinking of a 752.

    752 is 233.

I am pretty confident of my numbers as it is the type I fly and with XL we put the maximum number of seats in. The figures are based on getting everyone out in 90 seconds so the door configuration is the deciding factor. Floor stressing also does play a part as one of our 767’s had to be additionally stressed to accept the 325 seats we put in it. I will check the AFM next time I am at work and let you know what I find.

Yes that’s an interesting point. They do look like Mmo (maximum operating Mach number) rather than a normal cruising speed. The reason I think this is interesting is that this speed is often faster uf the aircraft is FAA registered than JAA registered. For example, JMC would put a couple of 757’s on the FAA register for winter operations in the US. At these times the Mmo went up from the JAA figure of M0.84 to M0.86

The reason the FAA speeds are faster is they way they calcuate Mmo for a given type. The FAA require a margin of 0.05M between Md (design limit dive speed) and Mc (design cruise speed). Whereas the CAA require the margin between Md and Mc be sufficient to cope with a head on gust of 45ft/sec at Vmo/Mmo which equates to 0.07M

In the case of the 757/767 Md is 0.91M so 0.91-0.05=0.86M under FAA rulings and 0.91-0.07=0.84M under CAA.

Shall I get my coat? Too warm for a coat. It’ll have to be an anorak.

    326 is the max certified load in a 763 and 290 in a 762.

Nice to see the Freddie Laker Skytrains again

Just come down to LGW and see them with DAS written on the side! I’m assuming that is where the paint scheme came from anyhow!

Amazing to see the relationship of the engine size on the Trident compared to the size of the fuselage. They are tiny for such a big plane.

Our pax are not sick, just stupid! I am sure they thought it was a laugh until things started getting serious and then their bravado turned very quickly into fear. If only they could catch these idiots.

As far as I know it is in the grass near a fence. I have an old shot of it somewhere. It gets robbed for parts regularly so there may not be much left by now. An XL 757 I flew recently was fixed with a part robbed from it.

There are also limits on duty hours too. Have a look at the CAA website and type CAP371 into their search facility and it will tell you all the answers you are looking for. Office workers get more time off than us these days!

Had to have a look at these just to see if you had taken a pic of the old Royal Brunei 757 at Kemble. I’ll take it as a no then!

The SP was converted to FANS a good while back by one of the Princes in Brunei. He spent loads on it and then got a slap wrist for being a naughty boy. It was then given to the Qatari royals as no one else wanted to touch it.

And why would a serious concern threaten to stop posting on this or any other forum unless people start believing him? Seen him before on another forum and it sounded dodgy there too.

Equipped for airport use? Just looks like a set of yellow lights to me. Most companies take the easy option and use the small magnetic yellows.
