A week in a hotel can cost you what you earned in allowances being there and more. Long term expenses include marriage councelling and divorce. It really isn’t all it is het up to be and it is rare to find a bed as comfortable as your own and even if it is as comfortable, I know where I’d rather be.

You are right. It depends on many factors. Mainly it is down to how frequent the service is. Somewhere like New York with BA is a regular service so the stay would not be long.

The question is nearly impossible to answer as every company is different and it depends on service regularity and not much else. Duty time limitations are a factor but as they state that you must have 12 hours off after a duty of up to 12 hours and a rest period equal to the preceeding duty if it is over 12 hours, it is often not the deciding factor. It is recommended not to roster rest periods of between 18 and 30 hours but as this is only a recommendation, is is rarely abided.

In recent years, the need to reduce costs has significantly reduced lay over periods. If you take a normal 767 crew of 10 in a hotel for a week costing, for example, $50 you get a bill for $3500 and that is before you count in allowances.

I figured you would be at the viewing area by Concorde so taxiied very slowly past there. Someone was taking pictures from the “grassy knoll” there. Nice shots though. The sun actually came out for a bit. It was glorious sunshine at 35k!
