With the Koreans it is more a loss of face to go around than it is to continue to land. It was a major finding of their safety audit that occurred after losing the 744 in Guam. Anyone in their right mind would have thrown that one away especially as companies now actively encourage that mindset opposed to the get it on the ground at any cost one.

I believe there is a cracking one of an MAS 744 doing similar and actually doing the engine and wing tip in. I’ve got in the archives here somewhere if you can’t find it.

TF-ATT is also on the EUK AOC and soon to become G-VKNH. When XLA get ETOPs approval you can expect to see them move onto the XLA AOC as that is the reason they have been retained so far. The 74’s are on the AAI AOC.

What I would like to know is who authorized that truck to cross the runway while this aircraft was on final and also, how could the driver have missed the rather large aircraft that was just about on top of them? I find it incredible that no one was killed!

If you ever fly in that part of the world you will start to understand it a bit more. Airports aren’t sterile as they are here but more like inconveniences that have to be crossed. In India I have seen livestock being hearded across runways and in China it was like rush hour after an aircraft passed the hole in the fence they used to gain access to the short cut. Truly amazing when compared to this part of the world.

757s were regular to Florida with full loads, with some outbound stops at Bangor. Could in theory be a 757.

Can I assume you are an experienced XL 757 driver then? 3 of XL’s 757 are low take off weight examples and they are all non ETOPS so really very little chance of doing it direct. We even have trouble getting 233 pax to SSH sometimes. I think you’ll find it was the norm to stop in Bangor rather than the exception and they had far less pax than ours do. You could expect a payload of approx 15 tonnes which equates to about 160 pax. My case rests!

It is rare for charter operators in the summer to fly with any empty seats so therefore full. I guess the TCD 743’s take the biscuit with their 520+ seats. I have done a flight with 1 pax. Can’t remember the too’s and froms but then I have done BWN-BJS in a 757 with 7 pax (149 seats) and 16 crew or there were the 763 flights LHR-NBO we did regularly with 11 pax and 10 crew (can’t remember the number of seats).

Looks like it has been editted now to reflect the lack of evac. Many aircraft don’t have nosewheel steering on the right hand side so taxiing the aircraft if the Capt. is unable to is not an option. Anyone know what the most common cause of pilot incapacitation is? Gastric discomfort. It is incredible how debilitating it can be. I have experienced it in flight but fortunately I was an extra crew member.

I can almost guarantee you it won’t be a 757. I probably could do it non stop but with only 3 pax and SG.84 fuel.

A delightful title. Lets try parking at FL350 shall we? I think you will find parking on the ground, under control, somewhat more relaxing.

US flight time limitations (FTL’s) often require a third pilot as do the UK ones hence the 3rd driver. The “fuses” mentioned earlier are actually circuit breakers. There are some switches over there too but are only operational on the ground. It was set up to satisfy the unions but there was no retrofit to change anything. I regularly fly some of the first 757’s off the production line (Eastern was the original customer) and they don’t even have a seat there which is a feature of most other 75’s. The 767’s difference is only that the 3rd seat is always fitted.

Spotters aren’t a feature of US airports and due to it happening on an engine run and therefore no pax, no news!

It is a crewing issue with guys reaching their maximum allowable flying hours. Note, these are not based on a calendar year/month but any 12 month/28 day period.

Isn’t that pretty much what I said. They don’t neccesarily use JN on schedule flights at all. Believe me, I operate both charters and scehdules for them and only ever use XLA. It is also the code used by ATC for communications.
