Many thanks for the input, I think my friend has the book mentioned as its probably where he had the idea from. He did consider putting a made up registration but wants its authentic and in any case the error would be pointed out the first time the completed aeroplanes picture was published.
He has considered the trainer version with the camouflage tops and yellow undersides as these had serial numbers but the Black and white undersides would be so different.
He is doing some research at Hendon before giving up so fingers crossed.
Thanks again for the help

Sad news, I met Mike some years ago when I bought a Gipsy Six engine off him to go in the replica Percival Mew Gull I was working on, he was very interesting to talk to a great enthusiast.
Hi Bruce,
I am still unable to get section 6 it has kept coming up for the past few days that the server is down, 3 other sections seem to have the same problem as well. Is anyone else having the same problems or is it my computer.
Thanks
Ken
Hi Bruce,
Is there a problem with the section 6 as I have finaly managed to load all the rest but for the past couple of days it keeps coming up that this section is down for maintenance, is anyone else struggling.
Its a great manual, thanks.
Ken
Thanks Bruce, it downloaded in about 3 minutes and is just the job, must have taken ages to scan at 281 pages, well done.

Hi Ronnie,
I would suspect that the drawings would have been on microfilm from the Smithsonian and then scanned and put on CD or DVD. I would ask the seller to send a sample drawing to check the scanning quality as some of the P-51 ones I have seen are very poor and you cant read a lot of the dimensions.
Hope this helps

Work is progressing steadily on the fuselage, at present it is upside down while they sort out the underside front fuselage cowling section. The one on Grosvenor House is in fibreglass but we a trying to replicate the original in wood, looking ok so far.
Most of the metal fittings for the cockpit controls are done and will be fitted when the fuselage is turned back over again.
I will mention to them about updating the web site, thanks for the interest.
There is a great book called ‘The American Aircraft Factory in World War 2’ by Bill Yenne which has lots of similar pictures plus great shots of inside the factories. I would reccomend it to anyone, had mine off Amazon.
Does anyone have a link for the owners club over here please, I have done a search but cant find it, did find a european site which is interesting
Thanks
Hi DHFAN,
Can you give me the link please as I have a friend in the US who I could ask if I dont get any luck over here. Thanks
Hi,
I would recommend the Polyfibre covering system which you get from their UK agent http://www.aircraftcoverings.co.uk. I have used it on a number of aeroplanes and its great stuff, very long lasting and is non flammable.
Ken
Thanks Robbo, have looked there but have you seen the price !!
Hi RJC,
Thanks for the offer, I am note sure but we have these already, I will have a look.
Ben,
I have both original and a CD copy of the maintenance manual but just wondered if there was such a thing as an illustrated parts manual with numbers. The parts manual copy I do have is only a list of numbers. I do keep a lookout on e-bay but nothing has been on in the last year.
Ken
Thanks Bruce for the interesting info, that explains why its different.
Ken
Thanks James for the great pics and John for the copies from the manual. Can you tell me what the manual is please as it looks very good, I have a copy (on CD) of a manual for the maintenance of the DH89 Gipsy Six but it isnt as comprehensive as yours.
Anyway both the pics and th manual show that the bottom of the shock strut is level with the bottom of the sternpost, whereas on the Comet at Shuttleworth it is mounted on a casting which puts it about 4 inches lower. An article in ‘The Aeroplane’ from 1934 shows a sketch of the tailskid mounted as per the Rapide so this must be a mod done by Shuttleworth… very interesting.
Thanks again for the help
