Yes Scotts Book is a good read and I have a copy plus Jim Mollisons book ‘Playboy of the Air’ as well. My favourite though is Aviation Memoirs by Owen Cathcart Jones which has a great final chapter about flying the Comet in the race. I was fortunate to be given a copy a couple of years ago.

Hello Don,

Many thanks for the interesting info which I will try and follow up and also for letting me know about the web site. I will speak to Martin at Derby about it as it must be an oversight on the renewal of the web name.

Can I suggest you give Martin Jones a ring at Derby Aero club as they have lots of info and do loads of work on Beagle Pups and have modded a few Bulldogs to civilian specs, plus there are a couple on site. number is 01283733803

Supermarine Aero engineering in Stoke made some recently for a fuselage they restored so may be worth speaking to them

Yes it was John Pierce from Chirk who recovered DH88 Comet G-ACSP from Portugal and as you say is a different person to Jim.

I started thee project about 15 years ago for a friend in the US. Got as far as fuselage and tail feathers plus all wing ribs when his business went bust and it was put on hold for a number of years. David acquired it about 5 years ago and has done a fantastic job finishing it off.
I enclose a pic taken when it was in store before David got it.

These pictures are great, thanks o every one. the article by Tom has 3 of the pictures I had so that’s great.
Davids Mew Gull has flown but is grounded at the moment as he had a fuel leak on the pump and is waiting for new seals. Looking forward to seeing it close up and flying. A brilliant job.
