Its a great book full of information and drawings which are enough to build a replica from. Mike Beech told me he used this book when he built his.
    Hope this helps

A friend in Northumberland is restoring a Turbulent he has acquired, not sure of the reg but will find out. It seems the undercarriage has gone missing so he is after one if anyone knows of one spare, he has the drawings to make a new one but its easier if there is a spare
    Thanks

Many thanks for the interesting posts, my local paint factors told me that the BRG used by Bentley in the early 30’s was Dark Brunswick Green, however as stated it does seem a bit dark from the pictures I have seen.
Tim: you say your original chart shows 2 green colours and I wonder if you could match both to the British standards please which would be usefull to see.
Its a shame that no mention has been found of what shade of green was used
    Thanks again

The retract mechanism on Grosvenor House is electric but it does have the facility to be wound down by hand. The wheel is usualy disconnected from the main retract unit but can be engaged with a clutch. The system uses a large screwed rod assembly to wind the undercarriage up and down so no it doesnt drop if you let go

Many thanks for the great pics they are just what I was looking for. I managed to wangle a sit in the Comet a couple of years ago both in the front and back seats but never took pics, it was brilliant

Thanks for the picture, I have plenty of the front panel but none of the rear, for some reason I never took any earlier this year when I was down there and was able to look inside it close up.

Hello Bob, where can you get the 2.5″ by 16swg from, we needed some for the Comet u/c legs and couldnt get any so settled for 4130 which was only available in .120″ wall which we had to have specialy machined down to the correct thickness.
I dont think you will find it in 17swg as they havent made tubes in the odd number sizes for a very long time. Would it matter slightly thicker as the 16swg is only .006″ thicker.

No definite completion date, Martin says that it would be great if we could get Black Magic complete by 2014 the 80th anniversary of the race. G-RSCR depends on funding so will take longer , but if a generous benefactor showed up then probably both by 2014.

Both aeroplanes will be based at Derby where Martin has plans for a special hanger to house them plus an extension to the runway as well. Then if we can fly them to old Warden and get all 3 together at the same time that would be a great sight wouldnt it.

Shuttleworth are actualy using a new strengthened design of positive lock on the undercarriage retract system which has been drawn up by one of our volunteers, a retired DH trained draughtsman. We also sorted getting the new fittings machined up as it was cheaper to get a number of sets machined up at the same time

Thanks for the comments about the new web site.

We have never seen any pics of Black Magic as found in Portugal, but we have a Portugese aviation writer friend who is researching it for us so who knows he may come up with something.

Dont forget that as well as Black Magic, I am building a replica Comet registered G-RCSR and will be painted green, fuselage is coming along well and will be moved to Derby when more advanced…Then Derby will be the only place to see 2 Comets side by side. I will post when this happens and perhaps thats the time to arrange an open day as well

Thanks for all the support and interest

We havent had a proper open day for a few years but think its something we should think about for next year, I will post any news on this.

The airfield is open 7 days and there is always someone there to show visitors around the Comet project if anyone wants to call in for a look
