What are we talking about here, all-economy trans-pacific flights with no meals and about 10 servings of pretzels?

Yeah, the landing was made at Chino airport, about 10 minutes south of ONT and 2 minutes from my house.

The Australian market is not THAT big, passengers do also have choices of UA, SQ for flights into US. If i remember correctly even Air NewZealand offers LA flights via SYD?

NZ ceased to operate LAX-SYD flights around the 2nd half of 2002, around the same time UA ceased to operate LAX-AKL flights. So yeah, they haven’t done that in a while. Hawaiian operates into SYD, by the way.

Same here 😀 Can the A319 fly the route?

    James

The Block times are listed as 5 hrs eastbound and 5:35 westbound. No problem at all for the A319.

That’s an interesting point-to-point route. There must be some interest in order to justify flying from a relatively small airport to Heathrow.

Good job Sandy. I second the thing that USAgent put on his post.

You’ve done a great job Lance. Your commentary was always appreciated. You might be just what the circus that is the GD forum needs in terms of moderation. Good luck on that front! 😉

San Francisco is a great city. Although I don’t care for the sports teams up there, the city itself has a lot of flavor and culture, and I’m not even talking about Castro Street! There’s lot’s to do if you’re an adult, restaurants, pubs, etc. As a youngster when I went with my parents, it wasn’t as fullfilling as it is now when we go up once a year to watch USC take on either Stanford or Cal.

you’re right, though, RB211’s are definately better than Pratts. :diablo:

Must to Bhoy’s and Bmussed’s dismay, I LOVE THE PRATTS!! 😀 Excellent report once again. I’m glad you had such a good experience in the states, although I don’t envy you driving across the desert in 100+F heat. It’s been over 100 here (SoCal) the last week and it’s driving my electric bill bonkers to keep the A/C running. I’m surprised so much of the overheard luggage space was taken up when you got on board. I usually have no problems on UA finding space in the overhead compartment. Southwest is definitely the worst. It seems like nobody checks in their luggage when flying them. I also am a big fan of the TED colours. It seems nobody was a big fan of it when it was first unveiled.

Great report, great photos. I’m all too familiar with flying into ORD, although I’ve never actually stayed in Chicago. How did you managae to score tickets to the White Sox/Cubs game at Wrigley you lucky devil! :dev2:

Ironically Sandy, I was just thinking the other day of starting a Varig thread, in my guess wondering what was going on with them, rather than giving an update, as you have done. Wow. It’s amazing how they can park so many planes in such a small space as they have done according to those photos. Interestingly enough, all their long-haul flights are still listed on the Star-Alliance timetable, updated on July 8th, although to the best of my knowledge, they stopped long-haul services a good month ago. Any idea how all the Brazilians that flew Varig to Germany for the World Cup returned home?

Granted perhaps, but have you seen the general discussion forums – which I might add seem to be slowing the whole forum down?

Amen. A bunch of adults acting worse than kids, except for the few of the members we have in here that visit there from time to time. They tend to add a little bit of quality in what is typically nonsense.

I spoke to somebody who was after aircraft for chartering aircraft to replicate the Miami Airport Cargo apron – I presume this is what the night work is all about!

Ironically, my hometown airport ONT has been used as MIA in the movie Catch Me If You Can. It’s also been used as LAX in series like LAX and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Lot’s of commercials, as well.

AC already serves LHR from YYC (twice daily during the summer, one daily otherwise) so this makes sense. I’m surprised it took BA this long in order to compete with a Star carrier on this route.
