It’s easier to do it for long-haul flights than for the shorter ones. United’s LAX-SYD flight, for instance, is scheduled for 15 hours. I’ve taken that flight about 9 times and it’s never lasted more than 14. The scheduled departure time is usually circa 11 p.m. pacific standard. It usually departs around midnight and gets into SYD on time.
A plane could pushback at the gate on-time, and sit on the runway for 6 hours, yet that is considered an “on-time” departure, go figure. Northwest used to be guilty of this, back in the day.
Aeroflot’s 767’s have an EI registration, as well.
Until Boeing pulls their heads out of their asses, that is. Until then, the 737NG and the 777 will have to carry them. I don’t think the 767, 757, and 747 have received too many orders lately. Sonic Cruiser? LOL, give me a freakin’ break!!
They have both CRJ’s and ERJ’s in their fleet currently. I think the trend over here is for all the majors to utilize more RJ’s in their route structure, subject to union approval, of course. UA after 9/11 changed many of their 1+ hour west coast flights from 737’s to CRJ’s operated by United Express.
I really enjoy the Condor scheme, as simple as it is. The yellow tail and the bold blue titles (not unlike those of LH), just look really classsy. What are the interim colors like?
That too.
I hate to be anal about this, but I have seen the movie like 500 times. Kareem Abdul Jabaar, plays first officer Roger Murdoch and throughout the take-off roll, the Captain, Clarance Over (not sure of his real name), keeps saying “Roger” after tower gives him certain commands, which gets a reply of “huh?” from Jabaar. So this happens several times until Jabaar, not the tower, tells the Captain, “We have clearance, Clarance.” Then the Captain says, “Roger, Roger, what’s our vector, Victor.” Then he appears to shift into 4th gear. Did those old 707’s have a 5 speed or a 4-speed manual transmission?
A 2nd officer would be an extra pilot for longer range flights, I would imagine. But different than those flights which carry 2 different crews, like LAX-SYD, for instance.
The same Thomas Cook that JMC is being merged into, also took over Condor, right? If so, will this new brand name be UK based, Germany based, or both?
Objection, your honour, heresay! “Overruled!”
AF deserves to get bashed. I’m actually appalled that Singapore is only 3rd on that list, how dare they! I’ve not flown Emirates or Cathay and although I have heard nice things about both of them, especially Emirates, Singapore rules. I have flown them, and they are incredible in every facet. As far as PTV’s go, Mongu, there are several airlines that have PTV’s in their 744’s, most of which are in Asia. There are still lots of major airlines, however, that don’t have PTV’s in their 744’s like QANTAS, as mentioned, and ANZ, United, Lufthansa, Northwest, to name a few. United was going to retrofit their 744’s, but I’m sure that will be postponed till much later, in lieu of their current economic situation.
T5, it bascially comes down to whatever the customer prefers. By using the 2 main doors plus 2 overwing exits on each side, you can basically seat more in a standard 2 class or 3 class layout, without sacrificing anything else. By fitting an additional door as opposed to an overwing exit, that much more room is needed in order to cater to a full size emergency exit. There are also 763’s that have 4 full size doors on each side, with no overwing exit doors. Actually, the ones behind the wing are slightly smaller than the others, but still doors nonetheless.
Actually Kabir, since it’s Cathay they codeshare with, it would be Hong Kong not Tapei from where the passengers would board a Cathay flight. From Ho chi Minh till Hong Kong, I’m sure it’s a Vietnam Aircraft.
I notice the the LAX and SFO routes are in dotted lines, which in most route maps indicate some sort of codeshare. According to my cousin, he used to handle baggage on Cathay’s LAX-HKG flight that had a Vietnam flight number, as well. Therefore, those routes are flown by Cathay, not Vietnam Airways. Besides, I seriously doubt that a 763 has the capability of flying Ho Chi Minh-Los Angeles nonstop.
