Mongu, thank you, it has been a while. I had to go into the basement for a while. As Michael Corleone once said, “Just when I thought I was out………..they pull me back in!” I noticed you initially put checkerboard on there. Pan Am had 2 basic liveries. The earlier one had a blue cheatline with smaller ‘Pan Am’ titles written in black. Around the late 70’s/early 80’s, they ditched the cheatline in favor of large ‘Pan Am’ titles along the side of the fuselage in blue font. This was frequently refered to as the “billboard” scheme.
P.S. That was a very quick response on your part, mate!
TWA livery with the red tail and and the 2 red stripes is one of my all-time favorites. Also the Pan Am Billboard livery. I also agree with Binx on the Proud Wings livery. Clearly one of the greatest “temporary” liveries of all time.
RE: What’s wrong?????
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-10-02 AT 08:14 AM (GMT)]I checked with my fellow Australians, and they didn’t know the exact details of the QANTAS involvement in Bali. THEY’RE KILLIN’ ME!!

RE: Abuse in the cabin
Olympic still has a smoking section on their long-hauls. Believe me, a coupe would happen in Athens, Thessaloniki, and every other major city in the world with an extensive Greek population that is served by OA, if they ever decided to completely ban smoking on their flights.

RE: United Airlines In Trouble.
The 767-300ER has more than adequate range to fly U.S.west coast to Europe routes. LHR is only 5,500 miles from LAX. A 763 has 6,000+ mi range. What do you think both UA and AA used on that route prior to the arrival of the 777? That’s right, the 763. Heck, Air Canada even uses it to fly the YVR-HNL-SYD run. HNL-SYD is not close, by any means.

RE: Some nice pics for you all!
As of late August when I was in Sydney, the BA 744 that was on lease in full BA colours, was still flying for QANTAS. Interesting how QANTAS, once a very loyal RR customer, has started opting for GE engines lately, as is noted in this A330, as well as the GE powered 747-400ER’s they have on order.

RE: What’s wrong?????
First of all, Kabir, I can’t believe you still remember that! I had actually forgotten about it. No need to apologize, it’s all good. Secondly, I agree that there really isn’t too much new stuff going on in the commercial sector right now. Nothing controversial, nothing new, etc. This typically is the time of year, when I personally, kind of “am out of it,” so to speak, when it comes to aviation. When spring and summertime come around, then I usually “get back into it.” Maybe it’s the weather. I don’t come in nearly as much as I do in the summertime, partly because I don’t work in the summer and I have more time on my hands while I’m on hollidays. I also have been much busier, much like Mongu, as I’m in the process of purchasing a house. I know he hasn’t been in here much either. That could have a lot to do with it, absence of particular members. Whenever I do check in now, I try to respond to everything that I have knowledge or interest about. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. This forum will rebound.

RE: AMSTERDAM AIRPORT
Yes, but to get airside, you have to pass through security, and only ticketed passengers are allowed in, anyhow.

RE: OneWorld/Skyteam Expansion?
Star is definitely still looking to China, and getting China Airlines, who has long codeshared with Lufthansa, to join.

RE: Something to boil your blood!
I will summon my Australian source on this matter, perhaps shed some light on the situation. Good job on policing this situation, Kev.

RE: viewing at lax
If you want to view landings, go to the Proud Bird Restaurant parking lot off Aviation Blvd. Just park for free, and enjoy. Excellent views of landings on Rwy’s 25L/R. If anybody wants directions, just let me know.

RE: Schiphol ‘friendliest European airport’
Schipol is fantastic. I loved it 13 and 11 years ago, respectively. And I loved it again this summer, even though It looks rather different from back then. Did they do considerable ammounts of renovation since then? Also, they classify Changi as a middle sized airport? You gotta’ be kidding me! That airport is huge! Takes forever to go from one side to the other, if you have connecting flights on opposite ends, and I’ve not even talking about from T1 to T2, I’m talking from T2 to T2! Doesn’t bother me though, I enjoy the walk, and the scenery in there, which is amazing. I could spend days in there.

RE: Something to boil your blood!
First Ansett goes under, now QF pulls this crap. Thank god for Virgin Blue. Alas, they don’t fly international. What a pity.

RE: Airbus gets order for 10 aircraft from Lufthansa
They only have 4 A310’s to begin with. Not sure where they’re headed. I’ve flown on LH’s A310’s and A300-600’s, the latter being my favourite Airbus type. I’m guessing the A330’s will be used to replace those, as well, eventually. When I flew them in early August from ATH to FRA, the captain was on his last flight, and we got a water cannon salute. It was cool to see, especially the water splashing against the windows. Everybody was cheering. It was great.
