RE: Airline colour schemes
I think any changes in AirFrance’s livery would be positive, Mongu! Regardless of what theme they chose!

Where was that A300 pic taken, with the 2 cars in the picture?

RE: PTV’s on narrow-bodies
In economy class, the PTV’s aren’t even stored in the armrest on the bulkhead. They are simply stowed underneath.

Where is Leh airport? And what modifications do these planes have?

RE: Bad Flight?
I’ve had 2. The last one was the only time I’ve been on a DC-9, a -51 of Air Canada from YUL-EWR. Only an hour flight, this one full of turbulance the entire hour. It rocked and rolled. This woman that was sitting behind me and to the right, I thought she was going to hyper-ventilate, she was breathing so hard and pumping her arms. The worse one was only a 15 minute flight, but scary nonetheless. It was on an Emb-120 Brasilia from ONT-LAX. There was a strong westerly wind more formerly know as the “Santa Ana’s” that we frequently get in the Inland Empire. Typical departures at ONT are on 26R/L to the west and that takes you right into the landing patern at LAX only 50 miles to the west which are on runways 24R/L or 25R/L. Because of the winds, we took off into them on runway 8L. Right after takeff, we made a sharp right turn with the wind blowing profusely into the left side of the fuselage. Lets just say, the plane was being blown sideways along with it’s forward movement. It was by far the strangest feeling I’ve even had in an airplane. The rest of the flight, the Brasilia was bouncing up and down, left and right. Once we got off the plane and into the bus that takes you to the main terminal from the remote terminal, the 20 or so of us that were on the flight all had that “thank god” look about us, even though I’m sure we were never really in danger. An interesting flight, nonetheless.

RE: Airline colour schemes
Good on you then, Bhoy. Sorry I overgeneralized. I just typically got the impression that only the British disliked it.

RE: Airline colour schemes
Bhoy, you’re killin’ me! That’s actually the best thing that BA had done in a while, in my opinion. I used to enjoy asking my cousin who worked at LAX, which 3 BA tails he saw that particular day. I think the only people who disapproved of the world schemes were the Brits themselves! Suffice it to say, the reason being was because your precious Union flag was removed from the livery as a result.

RE: PTV’s on narrow-bodies
I seriously doubt it! Most airlines I’ve flown always show ‘editted-for-airline-use’ type flicks on board, where they eliminate any sexual content and profanity. The only one that didn’t, was when I flew Singapore recently. They didn’t edit anything out, nudity, profanity, nothing. I would not classify this as pornography, however.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-08-02 AT 01:54 AM (GMT)]Phantom, I actually 2nd guessed myself after I posted the last one, and figured the 720 was indeed correct. You never posted the correct answers for the 2 bonus questions, even thought I’m pretty sure they were both correct. Also, I only had to look up one or 2 of the last quiz, I actually knew the majority. Lastly, the president that first flew on the jet powered Air Force One was Dwitght D. Eisenhower.

RE: US airline deregulation
In a nutshell, deregulation allowed any airline to fly any route they wanted. Prior to this, the gov’t controlled which airlines could fly where. As far as it being good, that’s hard to say. Indeed, many great airlines did go under after the fact, like Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, Western, etc. However, I think that could have been avoided. Each case being unique. Pan Am, for example, didn’t have a strong enough domestic feeder network for all its internation flights. TWA pretty much sealed its fate when they sold their Heathrow rights to AA. Tbeir were many other factors, these just being a few. Ultimately, deregulation was a must. If I’m not mistaken, Europe underwent deregulation as well, after the U.S. did.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz
Ok, the best performing version I suspect has to be the -138’s ordered by QANTAS. As far as the bonus questions go:
1) ‘Dash 80’
2) 717
About time I get to a quiz before other people do, and get most of them correct, no less.

RE: PTV’s on narrow-bodies
UA’s A319/320’s have dropdown screens. As they are frequently used for 3-5 hour segments, they can show movies, and as Mongu mentioned, safety briefings. Mexicana’s A320’s have nothing, not even audio. Not sure if HP’s do, I was on a 1 hour segment with them. LH’s have nothing, not even audio. I don’t remember if Austrian’s did or Air Canada’s. As far as the NG’s go, Aloha has drop down screens in their 737-700’s. VirginBlue has nothing in theirs.

RE: Europe’s Worst Airport?
I chose to stay out of this one. I always respect what Mongu has to say, as he frequently makes valid, logical arguments. However, Sloyne made some valid points, as well. Phil-cov-uni on the other hand, let’s just say, thank god he’s only made that lone post.
