    RE: Farnborough 2002

Boeing has never really ‘shown off’ their products are airshows. Just a few years back, I don’t remember when actually, was the first time they actually did a flying demonstration at one of the big airshows. I almost want to say it was with the 777-300 or the 737NG/BBJ. I do agree, however, that Boeing needs to wake up. They need to do something. 767-400 orders are lagging, as as orders for the the 757-300, which are their 2 most recent ‘varients.’ I hope the 777LR project falls through. I think they’ve only had orders from one airline, JAL, for that one. And the Sonic Cruiser, I don’t know about that one either. They just need to stick with developing a more high-performance varient of the 747, to compete with the A380. I think current customers of the 744 would be into that.

Unfortunately, I will not be in Larnaca tomorrow. I’m still in Sydney right now. I’m heading to Melbourne this weekend. I will in Greece from July 25th-August 4th. I’ll be in London from August 4th till the 10th. I was hoping to make Farnborough, but looks like I won’t be able to make that afterall. Perhaps 2004 I’ll make it.

Look at the IL-96. That is a great piece of technology, unlike it’s predecesor the IL-86. Especially the IL-96M with the Pratt&Whitney’s. It’s a shame that only so few have been built.

Greek islands are a haven for UK, German and Scandanavian charter companies. I was on Rhodes 3 years ago during July, wow! Charter companies galore, and our hotel was right under the flight path. I saw them all.

I realize that Kabir, but I was told by the UA reservation agent that my one-way upgrade, wouldn’t apply to the segment flown by the partner airline(even though they were a star member), only the segment flown by UA itself. Oh well, I’m not complaining. It’s all good.

Star could never be too big. The more the merrier, is what I always say. They are still 2 members short, in my opinion, even with the recent addition of Spanair, Asiana, and LOT. Actually, I don’t think they needed any of those 3. Spanair is a good addition, but they had Asia pretty well covered already and eastern Europe with Austrian and Lufthansa. As far as the Spacebed discussion goes, as I’ve said once before, it’s amazing how one topic stems 2 or 3 others. That’s what a forum is all about. I’ll gladly discuss either/or.

Well, in order to prevent further accidents, perhaps it was a good move. They obviously couldn’t handle it.

Well, the SIN-LHR flight is definitely on 747-400, so, hopefully my 1 flight is the one of the 3 advertised so far that has it. On the return, AMS-SIN I’m on a 777-200 and on the SIN-SYD it’s a 777-300 (1 of 3 flights using this aircraft). Even if I don’t get a spacebed, I have the exit row seat on the upper deck of the 744, which is probably my favorite seat of all time. A spacebed would be VERY nice on the 777’s, however, as I don’t have an exit row, nor an upper deck view there. I’m actually really bummed I didn’t get an A340-300. With only 7 left, I did research and apparantly they were all pulled from the European runs. Just late 2001 they were still doing 3 times weekly SIN-ATH with the A340, but now that’s with a 777-200.

I thought JAL had ties with Oneworld members? South African I thought had ties with Skyteam. Comparing Star to the Empire, I could live with that. I love Darth Vader! In fact, I love the Star Alliance. I am flying SYD-SIN-LHR and AMS-SIN-SYD on return on Singapore airlines, business class (hopefully I get the spacebed!) using my mileage, none of which was even accrued on SIA. I’ve never flown them, even though it’s the one airline I’ve been wanting to fly for years now. My mileage was accrued mostly on United, but also on Lufthansa, Mexicana, Austrian, and AirNewland. This summer I’ll be flying BMI for the first time. The point is, had it not been for them entering Star, I wouldn’t be flying them right now. I also wouldn’t be upgrading to business class on the way down to AKL from LAX, on UA’s 777. You gotta’ love alliances.

I am no longer looking forward to flying in and out of LHR and in and out of AMS at the end of July/beginning of August. What’s going on with Euro-traffic control? This is ridiculous.

    RE: Shooting at LAX!

The small plane that went down did so about 15 minutes from where I live. It’s a very popular regional park with a lake, especially crowded on the 4th of July. Bracket airport, from which it originated, is literally next door. Originally, the pilot survived but he eventually died at the hospital. As far as LAX goes, good thing I’m flying out of there on the 5th rather than the 4th. It would have been a mess. I’m flying UA to Sydney via Aukland on the initial leg of my “world tour.”

That airline isn’t called “America’s Worst” for nothing. My parents just flew them to Acapulco, they arrived 9 hours late.

Rdc, that aircraft involved was an insurance right-off, the first hull loss of a 744, in fact. The fuselage was in the water long enough to cause extensive corossive damage due to the salt, making it far too expensive to repair.

    RE: Pic Of The Day-SXM!

Once I saw my first picture on here of a KLM 747 on approach, I decided that I’m going to St. Maarten for my honeymoon! On a more technical note, that picture is of an AF 747-300 not a -200. Note the stretched upper deck. That must be a new pic on airliners.net as I’ve seen the whole database of SXM pics and I hadn’t seen that one.

Yes, they did. And Lufthansa has their wings painted white.
