RE: Sydney Airport Sold To Bank-Led Group
So the gov’t sold the airport to a bank. What does this mean now?

RE: Last flight of the BWIA tristar from london
Yes, Kabir, the 777’s are replacing the A340-300’s. However, the A340-500’s (not 600’s Mongu) were ordered specifically to fly nonstop from SIN to the west coast of the U.S./Canada. I don’t think the 777-200ER’s will be able to do that! At present, they either stop in Tokyo, Taipei, HongKong, or Seoul on their west coast routes with the 744 or the A340 to San Francisco.

RE: DC-10 Funny Pic
Kabir, that’s a really funny story. As far as the picture goes, that doesn’t look like Kai Tak? When did this event happen? Reminds me of a FedEX MD11 the wound up upside down and crashed in Newark around 96. Everybody survived that one, however. All 3 or 4 of them that were on board!

RE: The good old DC-3
I personally think every Boeing, Airbus, Douglas, and Lockheed jetliners are photogenic. Does that narrow it down?

RE: If you don’t fit the seat, pay for two
Sometimes I seriously wonder how many of the people sitting in business class, actually paid for it. I would think that a good number of them either upgraded, or used their mileage. That’s the only way I could ‘afford’ to fly business. A business class seat between LAX and SYD costs almost $8000 U.S. That is unbelievable! I won’t even address the first class cabin!

RE: Last flight of the BWIA tristar from london
They are still scheduled to take delivery of the A340-500’s, however. Those will be used to fly SIA-LAX nonstop. Unless this has changed? Also, the A380’s presence will definitely alter the ‘all-boeing’ configuration.

I wouldn’t argue with Mongu when it comes to economics!

RE: PIC OF THE YEAR WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
I agree, planes are definitely the idea. If it was a sundown/sunrise forum, definitely pick of the year. Unfortunately, it is not.

RE: Last flight of the BWIA tristar from london
If they’re going to replace a Tristar on any route, an A340 is a tremendous choice at that, especially in the wonderful BWIA scheme(one of my favorites). It is by far my favorite aircraft that I have never flown on. Singapore withdrew their A340’s from the SIN-ATH run a year too early. It’s now operated by a 777-200. And oh, how much I wanted to fly SIA on an A340! They only have 7 left and those are on their way out too. What a shame.

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
Rabie, what is “AFAIK?” You’ll please have to clear that up for me. And I still think some of those planes were blatant copies, bigger, small, evolutionary, or otherwise. Not that I have hard data on this, or anything, What do I know?

RE: If you don’t fit the seat, pay for two
I’ve never sat next to an incredibly ‘large’ person on a flight before. The biggest was probably my buddy “Large”(appropriately nicknamed) when we flew to Hawaii. He probably weighs about 260 lbs., and there was no problem there. However, if I was sitting next to an incredibly obese person to where his/her body was invading my personal space, that would really suck during the course of a flight. Economy class is cramped as it is. That would take the word ‘discomfort’ to the next level. Especially if it was in one of the countries where people absolutely refuse to wear deodorant.

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
Wasn’t the IL-62 a blantant copy of the VC10 back in the day, as well? Also, a few of the MIG’s were blatant copies of some U.S. fighters, like the F-15. When the TU-204 was first introduced, it only had Russian engines. Eventually, they wised up, and offered the RB211’s, and it subsequently sold a few more copies than they would have normally.

RE: US Airways
United is the only U.S. airline that does not charge for headphone use on domestic flights. Also, the food that they serve, even on domestic sectors, is above average. In fact, it’s pretty damn good, compared to most other airline food. I’ve flown on virtually every U.S. major (United, American, Northwest, TWA, America West, Southwest) and United, without a doubt, has the best service of them all. But then again, as I’ve said before, that’s just my opinion. I’ve never flown USAirways. If their merger was allowed to go throught with UA, I’m sure I would have flown what was left of them.

RE: Farnborough
Yeah, I figured the Holliday Inn is expensive. It’s expensive in London too. Are there Bed&Breakfasts immediately near the airshow itself, or relatively close? If so, how can I get ahold of them so I can make a reservation. I already have my airfare to London, so I’d like to get this finalized.

RE: Farnborough
The Holliday Inn should work, if I can’t get a hotel nearer. How far is Reading from the airshow itself?
