RE: Air France-The dirty mom!
I agree that the AF scheme is very boring, and their planes are dirty about 98% of the time, but the one type in their fleet that just looks beautiful, is the 777. I remember I saw one at IAD 4 years ago like a month after they had taken delivery of it, and I just loved it. Maybe because I was used to always seeing their 747’s at LAX. Shortly thereafter, they started seding the 777 to LAX as well, on the first of their 2 daily flights. I don’t know what it is about the 777, that makes it look so good in that boring scheme. Not all Euro-white schemes are boring, however. I quite enjoy Lufthansa’s and JAL’s. Must be the titling and the grey engine cowlings.

RE: BA’s Preffered Merger Partner-Iberia
I don’t like the idea of any 2 countries’ flag carriers being merged, bought out, or otherwise. A country needs to have a flag carrier, period. Whether it’s run by the gov’t or private. It’s obviously better for it to be privatised. Just take Olympic, for example. That company has been in shambles since the gov’t took it over from Onassis. It seems to me that BA is trying to take over the world. First KLM, then AA, now IB, who’s next? They should worry about taking care of their own business before they can take care of somebody else’s. Look what happened with the AirNewZealand/Ansett marriage? That was a debacle, now Ansett is finished forever.

RE: Virgin in talks to sell Heathrow slots to BA
Why would Branson do this? He is always quick to jump on BA’s every move, and now he is selling them even more slots to further increase their huge Heathrow presence? Why not use those slots for other routes other than Athens? And why cancel the Athens route? There’s no way that route was not profitable, especially now during peak summer time when all the Brits are flocking to the hot spots. He should get the ex Sabena slots, and keep the other ones as well. If anything, sell them to somebody that needs them more, and not to BA. As far as the BMI guy goes, this guy needs to work with Branson, not go against him. These 2 guys need to team up against BA. That’s just my opinion.

RE: BA’s Preffered Merger Partner-Iberia
Does that mean IB’s planes will be repainted and the name will disappear, as well?

RE: Farnborough
Thanks T5. How easy will it be to get a hotel room there, once I arrive. Will they be all sold out?

RE: Farnborough
Hey, I might be able to make it. Can you fly there from London?

RE: Help on Virgin fleet
What about the ex-NZ 747-219’s with the RR engines that Virgin had recently, are those gone too?

RE: Funniest event on board
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-06-02 AT 11:56 AM (GMT)]Well, so much for Denmark, they barely put up a fight. Good thing, as I had $200US on England. Suddenly, Tomason looked average and Owen extended his streak of scoring goals on Sorenson to 5 consecutive games. As far as what precautions are done about earthquakes to airports, I would have to say absolutely nothing. Earthquakes are no threat to airports. A little bit of shaking isn’t going to move those very heavy aircraft. The structures themselves are pretty sturdy and they are seemingly retrofitting and making improvements and upgrades constantly to beautify them and make them more customer friendly. I’m sure they are able to withstand a little tremor. Anytime we have a big earthquake, you always hear about some trouble that older highrises experience or older apartment buildings crumbling down. Even during the big S.F. earthquake in ’90 and the Sylmar quake in ’95, you didn’t hear a damn thing about airports experiencing trouble.

When are the dates for Farnborough, and where is it’s relative location to London?

RE: Identify the Airlines and aircraft!!!
The 4th one is a 757, not sure which airline. The last one is definitely not a DC-9, it’s either a 727 or 707, again, not sure which airline. I knew the Ladeco one, but alas, it was identified already.

RE: Air France-The dirty mom!
Kabir, you are absolutely correct, and I notice the same thing about AirFrance. JAL has a white scheme, and you never see their aircraft dirty. Lufthansa’s planes are clean about 95% of the time, and I’ve flown through Frankfurt witnessing this, as well.

RE: Help on Virgin fleet
From what I’ve heard from fellow greeks that have flown Virgin in the past, they do not serve Athens anymore. They usually had one dedicated aircraft on the LHR-ATH route. It used to be G-OUZO (Ouzo being a very popular Greek liquer) and then it was, as you mentioned, G-VATH. I don’t know if this is a temporary move, or not. I don’t know why it would be, especially now in the peak season. I’ve never flown Virgin but from these people that I know that have flown it, they’ve loved the service, meals, amenities, etc.

RE: Funniest event on board
Yeah, the earthquakes are definitely a factor. No biggie, I’m used to them, plus, wood and stucko houses just shake a little bit, they don’t crack and crumble to pieces that that wonderful ‘modern’ architecture displayed in Greece. It’s funny that you mentioned, ‘this has nothing to do with aviation,’ because, it’s amazing how one topic can go off on a tangent to several others. I guess that’s what a forum is all about. As far as the Swedish go, they’re playing well right now. And the Swede coach aint doing too bad either. We’ll see how his boys do against Denmark.

RE: Funniest event on board
Kev,
That’s fair enough. I respect your reasoning and justification, which is a good way to end this particular debate. Perhaps, I came down too hard on you guys, in trying to stick up the lad. As far as ‘hot’ and ‘warm’ goes, my sincerest apologies! The ironic thing is, I was going to make some sort of clarification in parenthesis in regards to the weather. I have a friend in London with whom I converse with regularly, and she pretty much fills me in on how ‘warm’ it is there throughout the year. In fact, I was in London for 4 days last June en route to Greece. Needless to say, with my ultimate destination being the Greek Islands, I didn’t pack any ‘winter’ clothing. I pretty much froze my ass off the 4 days I was in London! And that was June weather, ouch! I guess I didn’t listen to her enough. I live in Southern California, and the weather here is great year around. In winter time here it feels like it did in London in June, no offense.

RE: Funniest event on board
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-06-02 AT 12:44 PM (GMT)]Kev, I do not happen to find anything humorous about Andrew’s situation. Why? Because come summertime when it gets warm, females begin wearing short little skirts or dresses(in the U.S. they do, at least) and many of them fail to cross their legs in public settings. Not that it is hot in a airline cabin setting, by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m guessing that’s not the first time that has happened either. The bottome line is, it is not a rare occurrence(again, at least not in the U.S.). I was merely pointing out that Andrew thought it was funny, which is obviously why he posted it. And why did he do that, because the topic read “funniest event on board.” That happened to be the one he thought was humorous, therefore, he posted it. What I find amusing is that you, and a few others, obviously took offense to this, and consequently referred to him as a 12 year old. Perhaps you should have heeded the warning that he gave at the very beginning of his post, and not continued to scroll down. As far as indescretion goes, who’s the innocent person here? The token flight attendant, or Andrew who is 15 and practically crucified at this point? Perhaps, we should put an age limit on this thing and you don’t have to worry about other ‘immature’ posts in the future.
