    RE: The A340

Thanks for the clarification Shaun. Once upon a time, the first flight, that left LAX around 3 to 4ish, was a 747. But, good on you, nonetheless.

I love the DC10 series 40 with Pratts. Too bad only JAL and Northwest ordered this variant, even though NW’s weren’t ‘true’ series 40’s.

Thanks for the kind words. Vegas is my 2nd home, with Gambling being my 2nd biggest vice. AMARC is mainly stored military, correct?

Continental also codeshares with Virgin on the LAX-LHR run, with 1 of the 2 flights being an A340. Continental surely DOES NOT operate any A340’s. They have an all Boeing fleet. Once upon a time, they had some A300’s, but those have been gone for a long time now.

There’s no way it’s an A330. The tailcone slopes down too much for it to be an Airbus. It has to be a 767 since it’s sitting taller than the Condor 757. But that could also be do to the angle of the shot.

I can’t believe Emirates selected the GE/PW engine instead of the Trent. I hope this plane flies, it will be awesome.

    RE: Where…

Davis Monthan is definitely not on the road from LA to Vegas. I’ve done that trip countless times. Davis Monthan is in Arizona. I don’t think any of those storage facilities have public access any longer. The easiest place I know of, and have seen to take photos of stored airliners is at McCarran International(LAS) in Vegas. At the very southern end of the strip on the west side of the airport, are several airliners stored, mostly United DC10’s, 747’s and 737’s. There are others there as well. They come and go. You can see it perfectly if you’re staying at the Luxor, Mandalay Bay, or the Tropicana. You can pretty much walk right up to them, being parked right next to the fence. Hope this helps.

How would they “merge?” I thought they just wanted a very extensive code-share deal, a la United/Lufthansa.

As much as I love UA’s new livery, I wish they’d paint up a 777 and an A319/A320 in that White scheme, just for nostalgia sake. Those are the only 2 aircraft currently in their fleet that never wore it.

It would great for Branson to give his entry into the no-frills/low cost airline arena. There will be a lot of competition, however. Will he have a hub airport a la Jetblue, or will he concentrate on point-to-point services like Southwest? Both of these airlines are very distinct in their flavor, yet both very succesful. As far as the open sky deal goes, the U.S. gov. is correct in its decision to balk until BA/AA give up some of their slots at Heathrow. Until then, Oneworld will continue to come in a distant 2nd to Star.

I fly United regurlarly. I’ve flown on every aircraft in their fleet, both domestic and international. I’ve never once been able to view outside scenery through a external camera. Are we talking about a different UA?

I personally could care less about aviation right now. I canceled my last weekend trip to Montreal. My priorities are elsewhere. Then again, I’m an American.

Well, I’m sure the ‘hijackers’ got off the plane via rope, as well. Were they identified?
