    RE: Virgin Bomb scare

Why have I not ever heard anything about this Virgin incident on the news? I live in L.A. What day did this happen? And Monster, make up your mind dude. First you said 5 fold, now 10. The next time you come on, it’s going to 15, perhaps?

RE: passenger plane( that is what they say) hits world trade center.

United and AA’s domestic fleets are dominated by 757’s and 767’s. Delta’s, as well. They use these for many routes, short and long. It’s not uncommon for the first flight out on such a busy route(BOS-LAX) to be a 767. In fact, United’s first flight is a 767 and the rest are 757’s. AA’s, UA’s, and Delta’s JFK-LAX flights are exclusively operated with 3 class 767’s. So no, this is not uncommon at all. It’s surprising on how ’empty’ all these flights were, however. Anytime I’ve flown on any of these busy routes within the U.S., they’re usually pretty packed unless they’re late at night(not including redeyes). It certainly is good that they weren’t, however.

No Shaun, the Dulles flight was going to L.A. as well. Only the Newark flight was going to SFO. This has been confirmed many times over, trust me.

    RE: The airlines/aircraft involved

Saab’s report earlier was correct on the types of Aircraft. There were 2 767’s and 2 757’s. No 747’s or 737’s. The one bit of info that is missing from his report is where the Dulles flight was headed. That one was headed to LAX, as well, which makes LAX the destination for 3 or the 4 flights involved. All domestic flights to LAX that were already in the air were re-routed to ONT, which is about 5 minutes from where I live. I drove by and there were quite a few aircraft on the ground, but none that seemed ‘out of place.’ Just the typical lot of Delta, United, Southwest, American, etc. All international flights already in the air headed to LAX were supposedly re-routed to Canada. All theme parks and most big attractions in the L.A. area were closed today. Most schools, including the one I work at, were not affected.

Powerful act of Ignorance. That’s all I have to say. I love how the Palestinians were celebrating in the steets. Can you have any less class and regard for human life than that, other than actually doing the act yourself?

$600 US? No, I don’t think I have that kind of money! I can dish about a buck-twenty for a couple of nights, however.

    RE: BA & A380?

As soon as they enter service and the bigboys(QANTAS, Singapore, Virgin, Air France, Emirates start operating them at near full load factors on the really crowded routes, everybody else will follow suit. Besides, it’s the only solution to the slot problem that plagues most airports like Heathrow, LAX, Narita, O’Hare, etc. Instead of operating 2 777’s, why not operate one A380?

Dude, when you’re a pilot on a 777, you don’t need no damn Frequent Flyer points! I don’t feel sorry for you! As far as Dubai being one of the most thriving cities, I think it’s pretty safe to say that it is THE MOST thriving city in that whole region. As far as it being cheap, that’s good to hear. I was under the impression that it was rather pricey. What does a decent hotel go for, in American Dollars?

I’d love to follow Chelsae’s advice and “Fly Emirates” one of these days. Unfortunately, they don’t fly to LAX, which is my primary international gateway as I live in Southern CA, so that makes it rather difficult. I’m not sure where to the U.S. they fly, I think Chicago and N.Y. The only way I’d be able to fly them in the near future is if I fly from Australia to Greece via Singapore and Dubai, or if I just flew to Dubai from Athens, which I would like to do, possibly next summer while I’m in Athens. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Dubai recently, so I’d like to go there for a couple of days. I’m not in the airline industry, at all, in regards to that. As far as staying clear from United, it’s kind of difficult when you have as much frequent flyer mileage with them as I do, plus I’m premier executive and rack up the bonus mileage and get free domestic upgrades, plus, they’re the biggest airline by far out of LAX, where as I mentioned before, I do most of my flying out of. Furthermore, they’re the only U.S. carrier to fly to Australia, where I go often. I won’t fly Oneworld, so I have no choice there. Besides, with all of United’s partners, I can fly virtually anywhere and have the confort of knowing I’ll get my mileage, and get to go into partner lounges. Besides, United even has codeshare agreements with your company! United, believe it or not, is a decent airline with decent service. Yeah, they’re no Singapore, or Emirates or Virgin, but then again, who the hell is?

I speak fluent Greek. How about you? Emirates uses the 777-200 for their Sydney flights, right? Is that a daily service? Are they able to fly that service non-stop, because I know they make a stop in SIN. Also, Which aircraft do they use for their ATH services?

Just an enthusiast. I’m assuming you fly to Sydney for Emirates? How did you learn Arabic, did you go to school for it? By the way, you mentioned QANTAS 747-238s. I flew on one on my return flight. They have 4 on strenght, along with 2 SP’s. Needless to say, the plane showed it age with the interior!

No, I don’t live in Greece. I’m full-blooded Greek, but live near Los Angeles. When you say you’re family is Greek, does that mean you are Greek, as well?

A few of the middle-eastern governments have them as V.I.P. transports, not quite sure which ones right off the top of my head.

    RE: B 747 SP

All you guys are wrong. It was based on the -100 model, with a shorter fuselage and taller fin. If it was based on the -200 model, it would have had absolutely insane range. If it was based on the -300 model with the extended upper deck, it would have been the world’s first full length double decker. There is a really good book on the SP(I happen to own it) put out by World Transport Press. Lots of excellent pictures and informative.
