I think it would be reasonable to say that broadly speaking forumites are in general agreement that airshow safety record is excellent as is the maintenance of these aircraft and that the skill of display pilots is probably the best in the world. That the actions that have been taken are reasonable under the circumstances and in relation to the specific cause we should await official reports. Many would say this is understandable because of the nature of the forum and they would be right.
What I find strange is that there have been many thousands of hits on this thread presumably most by “guests” in view of the comparison of numbers viewing at any given time, 17/75 right now, that not one single person has joined to make their views known and more specifically to make comments like we have seen in various media sites. I wonder why this is?
Both pprune and this forum come up in a search all be it on page 3 or 4.
I’ve been reading this without commenting for a number of reasons, mainly because as a slightly lapsed aviation enthusiast, my technical terminology is lacking (in the extreme), and so I can’t really add much, and certainly don’t want to speculate. My thoughts go out to those poor unfortunate souls who weren’t even attending the show, and the families and loved ones they’ve left behind. It was horrific to see reported, just so sudden and final. Additionally, having witnessed two crashes myself (the spitfire at Woodford 1992 and the P-38 at Duxford 1996 (which in turn put me off going to the fateful Barton show two weeks later)), whenever these incidents occur they always have a particular resonance for me. The Spitfire at Woodford failed to complete its loop, and this had definite echoes of that for me……even when the tightest safety procedures, regulations, and routine schedules are in place, there is always the chance that something will go wrong. And that’s true of almost anything in life.

hope it flies over blackburn/ accrington (there’s not a chance, i know! but maybe, just maybe….!)
i’m just glad the pilot managed to get it down and to a stop safely – i was at Legends in 1996, and have been slightly on edge when it comes to warbird displays (even though i love them) ever since – i saw miss helen looking nose down and stopping very very short from quite far down the crowdline – the buchon had to take up its under carriage and do another circuit (it flew right over head!) – an unnerving ending to a fantastic day though!
does anybody know if there’s a display schedule for Liberty Belle?
a flypast over Burtonwood would be nice (but alas very unlikely)!!
Any news on if Sally B’s going to be up and running? Three B-17s in the air at Legends would be amazing!!
The Lanc/ Spit/ Hurri are based at Blackpool that weekend
Thanks!
