How do we go about donating? I can only donate a little but every little helps right? 🙂 I would dearly love to see her again.
Donations can be made by cheque/PO to “De Havilland Aviation Ltd” and marked “Sea Vixen” on the reverse and then posted to the address on the website:
Hangar 600

Card donations can be made by phoning 01202 593600.
Many thanks for your support.
Thats the first postI’i’ve ever seen form anyone who is directly associated with the vixen with contact details. Shame, moneys gonna be scarce as its being thrown into a rather large delta shaped pit ….
Well, we’re going to try the same approach… we figure if 6 million people can put in one pound for 558 – rather than one person putting £6m in – then the same ought to be said of the (currently) biggest ex-mil big bird on the circuit, and also British-designed, built, etc.
Although there are some very obvious differences…
1. Foxy is actually permitted and doesn’t need any more rebuild or test flying
2. Doesn’t cost a fraction in op costs
3. Won’t cost anywhere near like the show fees.
etc…
G-NATY flew today 04/03/08 I saw it land at 13.10hrs
I have no other info about whether this flight was a preliminary to moving elsewhere other than Bournemouth and there is none on the website
G-NATY was finishing off her Test flights and, I am delighted to say, has now completed all OK.
Yesterday, the CAA and our Chief Engineer completed the paperwork formalities and she is now fully Permitted to Fly. She will not be moving and will stay at our hangar at EGHH being displayed on the air-show circuit and for type-conversion training. If anyone wants to know more about those opportunities, then please contact us at DHA.
In the meantime, out sincere thanks to all the team, Brian for testing her, the CAA and the MoD for supporting the project… it has been a long hard struggle for over three years, but we got there in the end. 🙂
Thanks for this, I’ll try and be there. Please can you confirm between what hours the event will be taking place?
Cheers,
Mark
From 1300.
The new site doesn’t have the opportunity to run live aircraft (no flight line access).
Not strictly true… the airport have offered to move the airside boundary so that access to the runways will continue.
I say this as someone who has sinned in this regard in the past, and had no conception of who my words would reach….
Bad puppy! [smack paws] :p
Seriously though, you are so right and thanks for your post. Some posters here do NOT realise that this is read by lots of people, and similar speculation in the past very nearly lost us a commercial contract. Contracts = income = jobs = our employees putting bread on the table.
We’ll try and help out with info as much as we can, but please realise that due to commercial confidentiality, we simply cannot divulge everything here, and even the most basic info cannot be given until such times as things are really firmed up.
G-NATY, rather than just tucking into someone elses reply wouldn’t it be better to just tell us something positive/informative, as you’re in the know – that would do more to quash any silly rumours.
I think all of us want to see XP924 prevail, and hopefully on the airshow circuit.
The bit I will divulge…
We are pursuing several lines of interest in sponsorhip of the aircraft. However, those negotiations will take time and are subject to contact. They will be announced if they come to full fruition.
The bit I won’t divulge…
The names in the frames.
Other factors…
BAM’s future = not relevant… please keep those opinions and external links to other threads specifically discussing that subject. It has NOTHING to do with Foxy’s future. The two are not corelated in any way, and never will be.
Where exactly in my posting did I suggest that the museum was part of your operation?
Then why bring the latest news story about the potential threat of the museum closing into a thread titled with the “SeaVixen status”???
Whatever happens to the museum (whether or not it closes) has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on what we do with the Sea Vixen.
A potential sponsor could be reading this thread and then decide to pull out after reading your link (no matter how unrelated in reality) and put two and two together to make five. There are other threads concerned about the future of BAM.
It doesn’t help… and such poor thread linking has caused us major PR problems in the past.
If anyone wants to know, then we will let them know… albeit unless it is being kept quiet until a commercial press release…
See here for an update on the museum.
Looks as if it’s actually going to close:
http://www.thisisbournemouth.co.uk/display.var.1874209.0.aviation_museum_may_be_grounded.php
But…. the museum is not part of our operation. We are an separate limited company operating in the hangar next door… although the museum rely on visitors being able to see our flying exhibits being worked on and run.
As to the rest of the posts on the future of Foxy, I would suggest that you stop guessing – some of the posts on here make quite ludicrous reading – and please ask us directly if you really want to know.
Rumour and gossip simply shows nothing more than ignorance of the facts and can jeopardise any potential sponsorship talks – like they have done on one previous occasion. 😡
If you genuinely want this plane back in the sky, PLEASE let us get on with the work needed to do that, instead of spreading a load of old tosh that clearly shows it to be at least twice removed from the actual facts.
There are a few other sources for an engine coming up shortly so all is not lost-:)
We are pleased to announce that we are donating our spare Orpheus to Billy and the team for the Bluebird rebuild. Although not an airworthy unit, it should still work as a power-plant for any un-regulated transport uses.
It was removed from 537 in the early 90’s when she had her new shiny one put in, but was still in working condition, albeit out of hours for Gnat restoration purposes.
In return, the team are donating a unit that we can loan back to the museum, so that its exhibit space won’t remain empty.
Unfortunately did not occur due to a technical problem, and Brian immediately curtailed the take-off run and taxied straight back to the dispersal.
Following Brian’s surprisingly easy exit (He’s well over 6ft!) from the aeroplane, it was towed back to the DHA hangar where its engineers immediately began work on her.
Mark
Front strut was a little icky… well you would be if you were still on your first one since 1963… so it was changed over for a nice new shiny one.
I was there a week ago yesterday the Gnat was just sitting next to the sad looking Sea Vixen but the JP did go up and I guess it was Brian flying. Nice shots there.
Whats happing to the Blue Hunter at Hurn?
James
It’s in for major.
Not surprising really. The DHA website has not been updated for nearly 4 years. Disregard it if I were you as regards information – the last updates were in summer 2003.
The new website is up and running (went live yesterday), and the samples for the new Sea Vixen (and Gnat) range will be available shortly. If in the meantime there are items you require, please email via a PM with details.
Thanks.
May sound a daft question, but the last time I looked (okay it was a while back), Brunty was no longer a licensed aerodrome with the DoT.
or has that now changed again?
now that G-NATY is finally airborne will there be a concerted effort to have de hav’s other aircraft in the air in the not too distant future? I think I can speak for any number of people here that the loss of G-CVIX from our skies is a crying shame and we’d gladly do what it takes to get her airborne again.
Thanks for the offer… cheques can be made payable to “De Havilland Aviation Ltd” and sent to Hangar 600, Bournemouth International Airport, Christchurch, Dorset BH23 6DQ
About 100k does the trick for a full year, and you can have any colour you want on the paintwork (plus any decals as your heart desires) as part of the sponsorship deal.
