    Schorsch , Distiller,
What i feel is the warhead used should be the main focus.
What would be a MANPADS missile have as a seeker? How does the seeker in the missile lock on to the target? At what range would such a seeker aquire the target?
Since MANPADS are used ,I doubt if they would have long range to go after the target .The reaction time for the pilot would be fractions of a second? Surely the seeker would be LASER?

but how much space is left for C3I ?
A 150 km bubble dosent sound much! And dosent the airframe of the helo create a barrier ?
Does the Ka-31 have a datalink with the carrier?

    Scooter , Berlusconi
The reason the nchopper is considered as a quick fix option as an AEW&C is cause the equpment can be put into it and a maximum load can be carried . also choppers can be refueled by the buddy packs carried by other choppers
But these options are “quick fix” .Because these helos cannot operate longer than 30-45 minutes as they can carry only a limited amount of Humint personnel.also the gear carried excludes sonar equipment and hence is not worth the investment.datalink and C3I operations are virtually nil
New research into quietning of the helos will help and so will the STOL version of Boeing tilt rotor…but they are still in the future.
IMHO these could be the A/c used:
    Yak-44…Ka-34kamov…N-90sikorsky…E-2hawkeye…S-3 viking…V-22 osprey  ERJ-145(maybe)…EMB-145(now this looks happening)..EA-6B(yes)..Saab-340B..and maybe the An-71
Questions:Can the P-3 orion land on the Kuz or the Vick?
What would be the maximum wing size of an aircraft be to land on either of these carriers within safety margins?
Of the above aircraft which could be modified to land on a carrier?

I wonder what type of AEW&C can land on both the CV’s ?
Any of you guys can help me out?
Can all the usual suspects (with the addition of “Tailhook” obviously) be refuelers too?
Kindly consider a/c which can carry considerable load on half their take off weight (have to consider STOBAR carriers too, dont we?)

    Wolfy,
Even for a massive country like China, wih MASSIVE human potential : it is impossible to search for a ship that does not want to be found.period.
A group of ships that do not want to be found must be tailed from the base .even then trying to pin the tail on the donkey is such a waste of time and energy
    THERE IS ALWAYS EXPIRABILITY
without time constraints it will be easy for the dog to catch his tail:for a horseman to ride consistently with the sun and circle the earth in 24 hours
A CVBG has time contraints :it has to do a operation in given period of time. else it is a failure
A rival to this CVBG has to recon the entire ocean and detect the CVBG AND prevent it from doing anything in INTERNATIONAL waters .(the word prevent does mean any action taken by the carrier is reported to all the other forces in the area of operation).IN OTHER WORDS, the element of suprise is gone and half the battle is won.
For eg. Consider the situation in the Bay of Bengal during the liberation of Bangledesh: The IN had intelligence that a US CVBG was in the very area as their CVBG…The US bieng an ally of Pakistan at that time.Even with the intel they had to find out their operational area…. …and the end result was Mrs.Gandhi politicizing the incident at an international level.Having the world on your side when the rival carrien can be closely followed by the world press stumps the carrier out. It is like making a buglar work in the presence of everybody. The role of the US was effectively neutralized and they could not do a thing about the incident
Wolf what i would like you to understand is without hard intel the US cvgb would have dissappeared into the night with the country’s leader having to explain why they unnecessarily cried “WOLF”
I think this argument should end now and we should return to the main purpose of the thread i.e.” To find the operational effectiveness of both the carriers vis-a-vis the other and to find the situations to which the countries can respond to using a carrier.”

I have no detailed info on PLA RORSAT assets,
Once the hostile carrier group is located, tracking it with sats would be a fairly basic excerise.

    dear comrade wolf,
I have enjoyed reading all the posts and the jousts that you have with most members in the forum.
I have even enjoyed all the arguments that you have put forward to Gollo’s statements.
From what I have read of you I get the impression that you would be an idealist, an academician.
So Comrade I would like to tell ou that any “localisation” of a CVBG (be it SAR, SHAR,LBSAR,Recon,SATSAR or even a radio call by the friendly neighbour hood trawler) occurs only IFF the CVBG permits the passage of the info.
The ocean has thousands of footprints and the CVBG is just a small yatch in that footprint.Thats how small it can be when a CVBG goes to war.
There are thousands of ways of folling SAR in the sea.Ask the Indians .They have been fooled a lot of times while the americans operate (but never for more than a day at the most)
A small history lesson try finding how the GRAF SPEE escaped the allied navy during its run around Europe at the start of the war, sinking thousands of tons of shipping along her wake.
At the bottom of each of your posts I have noticed your signature. It seems your arguments are a defiant stand to the signature
    hope to hear more!

    😉

Not necessarily. Not all countries can or desire to purchase aircraft from Country A.

    Sean , Mate
Don’t think country A will have any problem selling to any country, having such a huge propaganda machine (ooops, :diablo: to be politically correct “advertising agencies”)
Country A even has soft loans which can be repaid as favours. Oh no, I never said said money changes hands 😉 . Only country A will provide money to the airplane corp 😉 to give country X or Y and Z. the same country will pay country A a fee for providing the same a/c.So the question of desiring to purchase the a/c does not arise.
Countries cannot purchase a/c, that’s laughable Sean…. Dont make me laugh too much 😀 😀 …the other wisdom tooth will come off…. 😀

    hi sean,
believe it or not , i just lost my left wisdom tooth last week(just checking ?yup that’s the one)
reading through the passage i found some things that i couldnt understand…..(the loss has hit me hard, dont worry i enbalmed the tooth in plastic bag to touch it and gain wisdom)
country C won a war a long time ago. in recent times it agressively ended many a conflict . the only reason country C wants its bordering countries controlled is to prevent such a huge war flaring up again
moving to your original quest do you think that maybe someone was counting the cards on the table and loading the dice in favor of country A?
for a pawn to move on the board the mind has to coordinate the hand and finger to move only the particular pawn to the exact spot. what if that coordination wasnt possible at all?
for country C aircraft to fail at all meetings with country A aircraft at every possible geographic location must mean that such a/c wouldnt be brought even if given freely .this is contrary to sales figures for the a/c of country C.
every where the answer point to mis coordinated and mis directed quest for the perverse pleasure of talking
a worthwile ode to a tooth

    Victor Neptune & Austin,
It is easy to replace a module or even add a module to the kilo. This particular type (887 EKM) itself is a stretched kilo . the ship has a potential to grow is the common refrain of the russian designers .
regarding the hydrodynamic stuff for the sub nothing changes except for side on.if the IN has done it ,then the kilo’s envelope has changed
The littoral tactics and theory sound good on paper and experience suggests that the IN will use these subs for a very different use than what is specified by you guys .
Watch this space for further detalis

saw on the telly that the sub deal was through the political stage and was for the engineers to complete…also heard the defence analyst raja menon say on the NDTV channel that the first 3 subs come without MESMA..with options for the rest.. 😡 ..so what is the need for the sub?could someone enlighten moi? :mad:mazagaon docks are made a fool of by the govt. again 😮

thanks for answering my post Sean
1 the loss rate for the sr-71  was high due to number of issues.aye thats true …if you have no proper landing, severe case of engine unstart, in-flight explosion and succeeding high-speed stall, 😮 😮 aircraft suffering a double generator failure followed by a double flameout (caused by fuel cavitations) and impacted upside down in a farmer’s field, 😮 INS platform failed, leading to incorrect attitude information being displayed in the cockpit, subsonic, 🙁 high-speed stall, engine blew up and shrapnel from it hit the right-side hydraulic lines& causing a loss of flight controls, 😮 takeoff was aborted when a wheel assembly failed. 😡
hey the last time a plane couldnt stand on its tyres was the messeschmicht…and we all know how fast it was :dev2: ….
no matter how much one tries to hide away the problems….THESE ARE GENERAL DESIGN FLAWS…..due to the fact that no one knew how the fluid dynamics of the mach-3++ flight(the shuttle still goes one dimensionally in flight)
for the matter the mig-25 did crash due to subsonic stalls, this means the control surfaces didnt stand a chance!!!!!!!!!!
1a the sr-71 never lost to enemy activity….certainly…or the us would have another u-2 situation :diablo:
the mig-25 IS,WILL ALWAYS BE, a fighter plane first, the pilots flying it will be fighter pilots first 😮 ….try finding if the rece versions we re ever scratched
3 the mig-25 was crude but try find a plane that crashed because it went through the cloud cover and flamed out its engines 😮
the lobsterback nozzle assy is still on use in the f-35…there cannot be a comparision on tech as the design bureaus in the cold war era “shared ” everything
4 thats what moi has been saying all along…..the study of mach3++ flight isnt complete…missiles can be sent …shuttles can be sent(for minute)…but hour long (within the atmosphere) rides are still not error free.
5 yeah mate fuel economy….dead engines…the rece mig-25 is still a fighter version
6 the prod engine was usedf in the prod a-12 not the sr-71
7 so are you saying that the sr-71 was not a all weather aircraft…(all rece aircraft are)
8 hey those planes are what we call flying coffins …you would never know what could happen next…a rece pilot does not need the plane also to be his enemy
if this were the seventies you would have asked me “what blackbird?”
    (aint that the very truth)

some more points i’d like to make
the target for the trisnics has always been reconissance
in a fast moving fluid battlefield like a indo pak war the primary piece of info will always be the enemies posit and his placing of situational armour
satellites cannot always detect the various placement and the weather can always play havoc with the pics
india should have learned that sat always fail[the U.S. sat recon fleet could not detect us from making a nucler test]
no western or russian a/c has a service ceiling like the mig-25 80,000 feet ++(about 23 km approximately)
this means the pilot could have been well over any passenger plane and hit any L.EO. orbit satelite with ease
whoever said that a mirage -2000 can do high altitude intercepts with a service ceiling of 59000 feet!!!!!AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!

watchman’s links provided the lies that that a website could give about any pilot
how nice it is that a pilot shows enough discipline during his entire op but at the very end of the op sows so much indiscipline that he gives away the entire op???? how nice!!!!
why cant the trutht about the incident be ever published???..why is it to be blamed only on the indians????
cold usage of logic on the entire story shows only one fact …that the pakistanis heard a sonic boom and tracked a a/c in to indian airspace
couldnt it be just possible that a pakistani couldnt bear the attitude of his masters and defected?????
did any one even think how the indian govt. got so much material about the f-16 even before they could fly with or against airforces having the a/c?????
    check out this site called
    http://www.sr-71.org/blackbird/losses.htm
more than half the birds made were lost
rece pilots are ranked mostly lower than the cargo pilots in most cases
they are what the boomer cap’n are[WE HIDE WITH PRIDE]…MOST CAUTIOUS GUYS RE THE CHAPS FLYING THE RECE PLANES….why…cause apart from flares and some jammin eqt…no missiles to fight back ….no wingman to help  😮
    now myquestions
1 even with so cautious pilots and supposedly better plane the accident rate is so high
2 could it be that aerodynamics of the plane are still not sorted out
3 if the mig-25 was crude imagine the embarassment to the f-35 team who are using russian help to lower the cost!!!!
4 hey even if you are russain or an american youguys still couldnt stop the tanks of these planes from leaking…..whoa …great technology
5 at least the mig-25 didnt lose 50% of their crude …no FBW planes to pilot error
6 the engine u are talking about for the sr-71 are off the shelf…nothing new
7 yeah great aerodynamics dude…50% accident rate
8 finally if the sr-71 were so great why o why are they bieng replaced by the aurora?????????
    awaiting your replies
    without wax :diablo: 😮

hey kabirT wots this tarmac incident about?????

the above post by blackcat shows the answers to the various questions i’ve been asking
