Thanks for your suggestions.
I’ll try the associations you suggest Exdigger. Another member of this forum has most kindly done some searching on my behalf and found a Douglas William McGregor which is middle first then last names just as you say Alan.
This was my great uncle that the family had lost touch with and I’ve only just learned that he was stationed in “married quarters”? in Dyce at the end of WWII. It was here my other great uncles navy medals were sent after he died on the Royal Oak in Scapa Flow – October 1939.
I’ve only just got in contact with the man that came by both the brothers medals in a London market in 1970.
The list of medals are as follows:
Palestine Medal as Sergeant
LSGC
1939
burma stars
defence and war medals
The letter is hand written and is hard to read so I’m not sure how accurate the list above is. If you know what any of these are please reply to this message.
I haven’t seen the medals yet, so as you can imagine I’m rather intrigued by all this.
One of the RAF medals is the Palestine medal. Can anyone tell me what this is? I know from my studies of the region that the RAF had the task of putting down revolts by air – but I didn’t think that included Palestine – I thought that was a French colony on the eastern Mediteranean coast?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Mark
