Just wanted to share a short video clip from FL’03, showing the OFMC/Breitling Fighters with Ray Hanna leading in the P-40.
I never came to know him myself, but I have many friends here in Norway that did and they have always spoken about him with a great deal of respect.
So, when I saw him outside the OFMC hangar at Duxford at the friday before the FL ’03 I thought I should at least try to talk to him, and so I did.
He was very busy, (he was just about to walk out to the La-9, and do an engine run) but still gave me and my friend a couple of minutes of his time.
He certainly gave the impression of being a great guy, as he left us with a big smile as he walked towards the Lavochkin.
Blue skies forever….
G-DHZZ is, as far as I know, still at Bournemouth in open store with about 8 other aircraft.
For how long have they been stored outside?
My limited experience with Vampires tells me that a Vampire likes to be
in a hangar when it is not flying…. Damp wheater and the wooden structure does not go together to well..
and a couple more from the same Fly-In.
Air-to-air pictures from the flight to Gardermoen and from a short stop at a farmers field on our way back home..
A couple of screenshot from the minicam…
I’ve tried to find Walter Soplatas place with no luck.
I belive I found the general area, but could not see any planes.
His B-36 fuse should be visible…
I’ll be visiting from Norway with four other aviation enthusiasts.
Looking forward to it!
I belive I saw a ground shot showing the Mustang at FL.
If it was there, did it participate in the flying display?
Very nice LimaNovember!
You really picked the right day for a Moth ride…
When I had my MAX-ride it was raining and the cloud base was close to nothing, but it was still enjoyable!
To “Propstrike”:
It has usually not been possible to operate off grass anywhere near Oslo, but just the other day I heard that the group operating LN-MAX from Kjeller airfield have made a short (320meters) grass runway alongside the paved one at Kjeller. So, now they probably save the tailskid a bit…
This is something I have been dreaming about for a long time.
However, for the time being, I live in a small flat with no access to a decent workshop, so I guess I have to delay my Merlin plans/dreams… 😎
Good luck with your project!
What’s the going rate for a run-out Merlin these days..?
(I want one too..!!)
Is/was Kjeller connected with the RNoAF Air Material Command? Or am I mixing things up?
Best regards
No, you are not mixing things up..! The AMC is the alibi for
keeping the airfield/air base.
The runway is military property, but is used for GA as well.
However, the politicans say that as soon as the AMC is packing things up and move away, the runway will go with them.. and the area used for city expansion.
They call it development….
quite a few historic types displayed at Kjeller on sunday.
We like to think of Kjeller as Norways Duxford…. 🙂

I agree in the previous posts made by “italian harvard”, that the manouvre made by the 109 pilot might not be “loss of control”.
However, from my point of view it looks like bad planning or even worse, lack of planning. It looks like he rolls off the top to make an Immelman, but decides that he got to get rid of some altitude and decides to throw in an extra roll on the the way down. Halfway through that roll he realise that the dive is getting to steep and adds a bit of negative G to prevent the dive getting steeper. This makes the roll look really bad… Good thing he made that roll look so bad, if not it could have been a different story….
I usually don’t like to speculate on subjects like this, but I just made an exception….
(Is it the same pilot that rolls the P-51 with the gear down?)
Hi!
As far as I know our supply of this video on VHS-format is starting to dry up.
I know there is some thoughts about getting it back into “production”, but this time in DVD format, possibly with some extras and sub-titles.
However, this is of course an economical issue….
But, for the time being, we will empty our stock of VHS tapes.
Please send an email at won(a)warbirds.no or visit Warbirds of Norway at our
website at http://www.warbirds.no
and I will pass on your request.
