I really want to see more hulls in the water.

It doesn’t need much:57mm ,.The ability to install a CIWS if really needed but I doubt it would be. I am really still interested in the SeaRAM system while not cheap I would for 8 hulls have 4 systems that could be rotated where needed and if this is possible. Not sure of the logistics with this.

    Hangar and Wildcat.

Ability to launch and recover ribs and that is it. I believe we have far to many high end and not enough low end. I really would like the RN to be able to give the Type 23 and type 45 to priority jobs and leave this C3 model to do the Anti drug stuff/ med cruises/ anti piracy.

Looking at 100m in length and crewing of around 50. Built in Portsmouth 🙂

Perhaps they should learn on there own and not steal other peoples property………….just saying.

The US Navy figured out angled decks and OLSs all on their own did they?

He’s just trying to be positive, I think we should have a break from quibbles and only jump on people who think that a tilt-rotor wouldn’t be the best option for UK carrier AEW etc!

    :D;)

I notice the Agusta aw609 is being uprated by the way….

Not sure the size of the lifts on the CVF but in terms of hangar space you could fit 2 AW609’s in there as well as the amount of F35-b likely to be on board.

I would love to see the aw609 with 2 Vigilance pods on would give 360 coverage and given the service ceiling it would offer an amazing jump forward in capability with what most people would say is low risk.

The sensor pod can be mounted on a hardpoint or a rigid frame and contains the radar antenna, processor and power supply, an IFF interrogator, GPS/INS, ESM sensors and its own cooling system. Two of them carried on either side of the platform can provide 360-degree coverage.

Up to four associated operator consoles are fitted inside the platform, running a tactical mission system that Lockheed Martin UK has already developed for the UK Royal Navy Merlin Mk2 helicopter. A system interface panel on the console connects to platform avionics, although Vigilance can be operated in an entirely self-contained mode. Thanks to the capability and flexibility of the fourth-generation active electronically scanned array (AESA), missions can include airborne early warning

    still dreaming I guess

Royal Navy destroyer to join ballistic defence trial

    https://assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/image_data/file/6920/s300_45154034.jpg

The potential for Type 45 destroyers to help protect deployed UK and Allied forces from threat of ballistic missiles is to be investigated.

Should be interesting. Probably never find the money to integrate though.

The one using the nukes first today has lost the conflict by becoming a Paria-state in doing so.

Just wondering if you can be a Paria-state if there are no states left. The one who fires the first nuke is the one that gets to be the state that ends the world.

Really pointless thread, I thought this forum had got away from VS threads.

Ideally I think it should go like this.

Canada does the maths again – Orders Super Hornet like for like +1 total 78 aircraft. At the same time with savings made over the F-35 they order the following. Also offers the ability to use tankers already in service.

    5 x C-295AEW&C ordered first
    19x C-295MPA to replace the CP-140 & CP-140a ordered in the next 5 years

I really can’t understand why they don’t have thier own AWACS but this mix while not matching the E-3 offers value for money and ease of support with same base aircraft.

Slightly off topic sorry. I think this is a good step, I feel the Super Hornet would probably be the best fit for them even though I wish they would look at the Typhoon seriously.

What does surprise me and I can’t believe I didn’t see this before, why on earth don’t they have any AWACS ???

If you don’t believe me Stan Hyd here are a few pictures of 81-0967 during the Kosovo campaign, took a hit from a SAM and returned to service a couple of weeks later

Fedaykin I don’t post often, but I read daily. I find your posts to be well thought out and interesting. Please take it for granted that I wouldn’t think you would make something up 🙂

That being said, on a personal note I don’t think I would want to be a slow moving target over a manpad now matter what the amour is like. That’s just a personal though 😛

I also think that the chance of them operating A-10 are 0 but the chance of them using Brimstone in the future is possible.
I think that with the type of fight they have on their hands with lots of civilians about and moving non armored vehicles the Brimstone missile would be of use. Too late now probably for integration (someone have thoughts on how long that would take?) but if they had started after Libya could have been done?

I understand the lack of desire to get involved by our Government but I do think it was the right move by the French and wish we could support them in more ways. Perhaps the UK could provide the Malian army with some equipment at least.

A-10s would be sitting targets with MANPADS in the field

Bet they wish they had Brimstone right now. Perfect for this mission.

Meteor – I think they would be interested in this. Could they work to integrate on F-15 – could open up sales to Korea as well, would help Saudia Arabia use on Euro and F-15.

    Justa thought.

Firstly, yes we know they don’t want Nuclear power – whats the point in the board at all if we don’t talk. We dont make decisions, we discuss the merits behind the decisions made. I dont think they made the right decision. They are buying a submarine force that will have to constantly on the guard against a submarine force in their area that operates SSN.

Any who – what would they want to visit New Zealand for with a Submarine? yes other types of ships but submarine?

I like the Barracuda, but having to refuel twice seems a bit rough.

Wouldnt you rather, if people arent keen on the whole nuclear, go for the Astute design with a core that never needs refueling. You could then just sail them back to the UK to be decommissioned. I mean with that kind of budget they could look at have at least 6 SSN. 1.3 billion per boat on the first 3 would mean a total cost of 7.8 billion which would be a steal.

I just think they are spending a lot more money than they need to. In this case go off the shelf.

200 million for the basic model – I want at least 15 of these 🙂 never happen but it would really help get numbers up again.

At least if it were modular we could have 8 high end kits for ships heading to hot spots. and 7 others with the basic flag ops kit.

Ideally I would love 20. still with 8 high and 12 low. Pipe dream.
