But why 96? Why not a full, roiunded figure of 100?
Let me bet :
4 squadrons with 20 rafale and 4 spare planes for each squadron because they plan an average attrition rate of 25% during the operational life of the plane.
4 x 20 = 80
25 % of 80 = 16
80+16 = 96 😀
more seriously, if they do plan 4 squadrons of 20 operational aircrafts, having 4 more aircrafts in maintenance for each squadron is a minimum to get a good turn over imho.
Acording to Dassault, nothing is signed yet.
So wait and see.
or win a close dogfight with a mach 2+ fighter
a dogfight at mach 2 ? what a funny idea 😀
Since when does EADS own Dassault?
actualy, EADS have a slightly bigger stake in Dassault aviation than in the eurofigther consortium
EADS owns 46.03% of Dassault aviation and 46 % of the eurofighter consortium 🙂
Nevertheless EADS is the major shareholder in the Eurofighter consortium but not in Dassault aviation (the biggest shareholder in Dassault aviation being “Groupe Dassault” with a stake of 50.22%)
Hope it clarifies things.
As a result we can say that (economicaly speaking)
– Rafale = 52% Groupe Dassault + 46.03% EADS
– Erofighter = 46 % EADS + 33% BAe systems + 21% Aliena aeronautica
sources : rafale eurofighter
I read the F-22 is coated with a paint that “absorbs lasers” which is supposed to make it impossible to use a laser rangefinder against it.
There are differend kinds of laser. may be the F-22 could absorb the wave lengh of a specific laser but I don’t see how it could absorb all of them
This Bae CVF concept was very interresting imho
mig-23 ?
notice the 2 mica IR on the mirage 2000-5 mk2
Overall length of E varies from 14,08-14,54 m, when 2000 varies from 14,36-14,55 m.
If it is not an E, the C is 13,85 m.
The Mirage 5 is 15,55 m.
you are absolutely right ! my bad ! 🙂
According to the wingspans (which doesn’t change), the scales seems correct indeed.
is it backwards retracting?
no 🙂
By the way, What’s the current status of the Rafale’s family in France Air Force?
The 2 first serial rafale B (B301 and B302) are used for trials and Air shows.
The first serial rafale C (C101) is also used for trials
5 rafale B (B303 to B307) have just been delivered and are at the Mont de Marsant Air base (CEAM) for opval
10 more rafale B should be delivered in 2005.
You can make the difference by looking at the markings too
– the M has an anchor on its cocardes 🙂
– the cocardes of the fuselage are next to the engine nozzle for the M and next to the canards for the B/C
– On the M, cocardes are low viz
– The serial number of the rafale M is between 1 and 99 in the middle of the tail and under the cockpit (big)
– The serial number of the rafale C is between 101 to 299 at the top of the tail (tiny)
– The serial number of the rafale B is > 300 at the top of the tail (tiny)
– If there is a squadron code under the cockpit (330-EB for exemple) it is a B or C
Not sure whether the dimensions are correct….
On the first drawing the mirage III (15 m lengh) should be bigger than the mirage 2000 (14.5 m lengh) 🙂

These 10 M2000H are exactly same aircrafts that those have been built in the 80’s (IAF request).
Not exactly. They have the RDM-7 radar and better mission and nav computers.
