Purser….If you’ll accept a response from a “spotter”, though whats wrong with them I don’t know, your response to my post is obviously wrought with anger…I remember very well how that felt when I got made redundant. However I stand by what I say. And Ren no, there is no harm in standing up for your values and conditions and I certainly don’t sniff at those who do but no one in this industry is immune from the huge changes sweeping through it. How are you all going to feel when you bring the whole framework within which you work crashing down in pursuit of these objectives? Purser, lucky that you have a company pension, I had one too once, I now have to buy my own, but thats fine I can deal with that and so could you. I have a friend who has been BA cabin crew on long haul for the best part of 20 yrs and even has his own medium sized boat, not bad I’d say, and like you he would not do anything else. As to being ill informed about cabin staff after some 25 yrs in the industry I don’t think that even warrants a response. I sincerely hope you all get what you want. Lets hope that in the long run it doesn’t end up costing you too much……..now where are those binos….:(
I welcome replies from anyone and expect to receive a roasting for referring to you all as spotters. I’m looking forward to the comments, I’m guessing they’ll all be pretty similar your yours, be grateful I’ve got a job, you’ll be the death of BA blah blah blah etc etc. Somewhat of a done deal there but again none of you are in possession of the facts. I am however confused regarding your remark about being ill informed about cabin staff after 25 years in the industry. Does that mean you are familiar with my conditions of contract? That you are familiar with what BA are proposing? Or just that you are aware we serve the tea and coffee at 38,000 ft?
I personally don’t have a boat, the CSD’s normally have those but I do have a very nice house that I’d like to keep, a nice car and a social life that requires my current salary to maintain but I guess that’s too much to ask in case I bring BA to their knees.
There’s nothing wrong with spotters, I’m here aren’t I? But get my point, not nice when somebody labels you and says something you think is unjustified.
Here we go again, a bunch of spotters sitting in judgement over me and my colleagues. None of you, with the exception of any other BA crew using this forum have any idea of what you are talking about. Before you condemn me please familiarise yourself with the real facts, like the salary and pension increases that have been awarded to those senior managers that expect us to take salary cuts and loss of contract conditions. I have a mortgage to pay and a standard of living I want to maintain, don’t all of you?
I am BA cabin crew through and through, love the job, done it for years and will continue until I retire. After all these years I still get a buzz when those 747 engines go to full power and the wheels leave the runway, there’s nothing like it. The thought of going on strike makes me feel sick to my stomach but I will do it along with thousands of my colleagues.
Yes, I feel very strongly and I make no apology for my rudeness, I am angry that I am being put in this position by the company I love and angry that I am being criticised by people that have no idea of my reality. You’re talking about my job and my future so have a little thought, respect and common sense please.
I am proud to wear my uniform and be recognised and envied as the best.
Dantheman – Well said and I agree with everything you’ve said apart from –
2. You cannot treat your customers like sh!t – your customers will not forgive you
FR customers are treated like sh!t on a daily basis and still they come back for more in their millions, why, because we Brits love to get something for nothing or very cheap and then moan like crazy about it afterwards. Millions of us tuned in to see FR get a thrashing but I don’t believe it will make any difference in the long run. There will be e-mails and memo’s flying around within FR about tightening security, passport checks, this that and the other but all they need to do is come out with a huge marketing campaign in conjunction with the Sun or the Daily Mail and there’s a few million more seats sold (or given away).
The only downside as far as I’m concerned is that it will be the crew, pilots and cabin crew that will suffer from this outing, not the arrogant individual that created an enviromnent of fear, intimidation and poor operating practices. I imagine the witch hunt within FR has already started, all the very best to all of you concerned and I so hope the Captain featured can remain anonymous.

Just my opinion.
Good luck with the degree.
Yeah right, of course you don’t.
Having a biased opinion isn’t nice is it!
Here we go again, lets have a go at BA staff, after all, we’re up for it, we get paid shed loads for doing practically nothing, get every perk in the book and of course take the managemnt for a ride………………………WRONG!
Some of you, please think before you post, I find some of your comments insulting and very detrimental to myself and colleagues.
I think I’ll stick to the pprune forums, at least there’s people in the aviation industry there that have a degree of knowledge of what they’re talking about and not just spotters that can only dream of working for an airline.
There’s nothing wrong with having an opion as long as it’s well thought out and based on some kind of real awareness of the situation.
So, every male steward is gay?
Come on guys, wake up, it’s 2004, we don’t burn them at the stake any more!
Agree with you Mongu, I flew Emirates (economy) to Male via Dubai back in Feb. All four sectors were a let down. Maybe I was expecting too much but I wasn’t impressed at all. Personal space around the seat was very poor, the cabin service was nothing special and the food was ok. Credit where it’s due though I thought the IFE was excellant.
Andrew, I said the real facts. The Daily Mail!!!!
Have to agree with Kabir, what’s with the big announcement, if you want to go then go, don’t make such a song and dance about it or are you wanting/expecting us to ask you to stay.
Your photos are great and enjoyed by all of us and we’re not asking you to leave so just enjoy the forum and take it easy.
Moondance………………as a fellow old fart, well said!
Jeez, some people shouldn’t be given passports and allowed to travel!
Skypilot, spot on, I’m in total agreement. How that kind of “newspaper” sells so many copies, then I guess page 3 might have something to do with it! It can’t be for any news content.
Sensationalism and titilation is what they are all about, which is ok but any news content should not be taken seriously.
Usual total rubbish from the media, he couldn’t have been on the runway, more like he was on the ramp/apron, possibly doing a walk around (or stagger if the story is true) prior to departure.
Usual negative sensationalism that always surrounds anything like this to do with aviation. It would interesting to know the real facts.
Hey come on Danairboy, we all say the wrong thing every now and then, none of us are perfect. We’re all different people and from different backgrounds and have different views. What’s not offensive to one person is offensive to another, one man’s meat and all that. Ren and Mongua are right, in todays world we all have to think before we speak and try to be constructive if we need to critisise or at least make sure whatever you say is not in writing, been recorded or there are any witnesses!!!! Sorry, just joking.
Stay on Danairboy, we all put our foot in in from time to time. There’s a lot of great people on here with lots of different experiences, views, information etc. Think about it.
