Excellant, I love it!!!
Michael
I know what you mean, by making the situation worse I meant not questioning the immigration guys as they can be quite intimidating if you upset them!

Well done, congratulations and all the best with your new career.
Happy and safe flying.

That’s a real shame mate, I don’t know if they are permitted to do that, I guess they are permitted to do whatever they see fit on the day!!!! I wouldn’t suggest questioning it though as you will probably cause yourself more hassle.

Great pics Kabir, the SAS airbus look brilliant!

Sorry to hear about the problems you encountered with Ryanair. I have to agree with wysiwig……peanuts and monkeys!!!!!
Having said that, no matter what you have paid you should still get a level of customer service, after all that’s the industry Ryanair are in, once thay’ve got your money though that’s where their interest appears to end!!
I hope you get your money back.
All the best.

I’ve only come across a few cases of genuine air rage. On each occassion we as crew have been able to defuse the situation and all ended ok. I agree with Mongu, how the situattion is dealt with at the time is crucial. You can’t go in all guns blazing and expect nothing to happen. Tact and empathy normally works for me.
What I think we as crew have to appreciate is that we have no idea how the pax is feeling and what has happened to them prior to boarding our aircraft. They might have emotional problems for example. No two pax are the same. Things that might seem trivial to one person are huge to another and before you know it you have an incident that gets out of control.
I think too much alchohol can be a cause for some but I have seen pax stay up all night on a 12 hour flight, drinking constantly then leave the aircraft as though they’d slept the whole flight! Others, one G and T and they start shouting around the cabin. You just can’t tell. There’s a very fine line when it comes to refusing to serve a pax alchohol.
In answer to an earlier question, yes we do have restraing equipment onboard but it is only to be used as a very last resort and only with the Captains permission. In 15 years of flying I have never had to use it.
Fly safe
I like the new livery, much beter than the awful pink/black etc.
I have a friend who works for them on their 747’s as cabin crew. She says they are not a good company to work for, crew normally only stay there until they can get another job. She’s there until the end of the season then she’s off Thomas Cook.
Speaking as a male, 45 y/o BA long haul Purser that has flown too many transatlantic night flights and should have given up flying years ago (but can’t coz the monies good and the lifestyle’s brilliant), seen cabin crew come in every shape and size…………………give me Kylie in any uniform any day!!!! Yeah predictable I know.
Seriously……every airline has great looking girls and not so great looking! I agree with the makeup thing though, don’t know why some girls need to wear so much, they look great without it. Not so sure about the Hooters Air girls, nice looking girls but the uniform is crap, a bit too Easyjet, no class.
Did anybody see the newspaper article recently about AA having an 80 yearold stewardess! I bet she’s been everywhere and seen everything, she must be a great laugh to work with, I wouldn’t mind doing a trip with her, for the laugh!!!!
Male business pax often tell me that although it’s nice to see pretty faces in the cabin they like to know that there’s someone older in charge, with a lot of flying experience in case anything should occur. By that I don’t mean that anybody younger couldn’t deal with a given situation, of course they can.
Sometimes I think some people aren’t aware of the amount of training that goes into being cabin crew and the amount of knowledge you need to retain in your head as you are often asked about various scenarios and equipment as part of the Purser or CSD’s pre-flight breifing. Some might look a bit bimbo-ish but they aren’t!!!
Still want to see Kylie in a uniform though!!!!!
Purser:D 😀
No difinitely not, they should not be freed until the end of their sentence.
I have every sympathy for those people living under oppressive regimes, I can’t imagine what it must be like.
However, they hijacked an aircraft, it’s an illegal act, end of story!
They have been safe from the Taliban in prison and will be safe when they are relaeased as the Taliban no longer exist.
Hijacking an aircraft for whatever reason should not be tollerated.
Having said that……this is England and we are talking about the rediculous English justice system so anything is possible!!!!!
Mongu, no way, you’re excactly the kind of pax I (and most of my colleagues) like….undemanding!
I have no problem with anyone talking or not paying attention during the saftety demo, it’s up to them and you can’t police every pax on a 747. All I ask is that they don’t talk so loud that pax around can’t hear safety demo instructions. The demo is done on the IFE screens now so it’s up to the individual pax.
My moto is always, get out of it what you want, the demo is done for YOUR safety, it’s up to you.
Going back to the original point, I think that if you don’t even notice our uniforms or listen to PA’s then hopefully we’ve done something right and you are relaxed as I sometimes look at pax, in traveller (economy) mostly and they look so bored and cramped up, looking at us (not at me as I’m a 45 y/o 6ft bloke that should have stopped flying years ago but enjoys the lifestyle!) as I am told we are sometimes the best entertainment!!!! You can only watch so much BBC news and IFE. It sounds like you are probably in one of the premium classes in which case hopefully you are comfotable and don’t need to stare at the seat back in front of you for twelve hours!!!!
Joking apart, that’s the way I think pax should be, relaxed, chilled and left alone. If they want anything, hit the call bell and we can provide it, sometimes I think too much is thrown at pax and we disturb them too much. The majority of pax I come into contact with are businessmen. Some want the all singing, all dancing service which I am happy to provide but most just want to be left alone to work (outbound) or sleep and relax (inbound).
Every pax is different and come onboard with different needs and expecations, finding common ground is the most challenging and difficult part of each flight.

Hi Vic, welcome.
I’ve only been here a few days myself but it’s a great forum, a lot of interesting info and views, some excellant pictures too.
I’m BA cabin crew based at LHR T4.
Enjoy.
All the best

I don’t know the full details but if the route isnt contributing then why operate it? If the local Chamber of Commerce and business community are not supporting and using the route then BA are not going to run it at a loss, that doesn’t make sense.
The bigger picture is that BA bought Brymon Airways years ago to get their slots at LHR (denied by BA of course). Not long after they moved the PLH and NQY services to LGW to free up the LHR slots for long haul serices they wanted o transfer from LGW. I don’t think they have ever really been interested in the routes and now they have the excuse to drop them.
A shame but I guess thats business!
I wonder if Flybe or Aurigny would be interested?

Hi Mongu
No not a silly question and most pax don’t listen to pa’s anyway!
I’m not sure about other airlines, I think we all have a similar title for the same job.
On long haul BA aircraft the person in overall charge of the cabin is the CSD, Cabin Services Director. There is then generally a Purser for each cabin, First, Club World, Traveller Plus and Economy. They all report to the CSD.
On short haul aircraft there is generally one Purser and they are in overall charge of the cabin.
All the best.

I tend to agree with Mongu and Whiskydelta, any airline is at risk from terrorists. An attack against a BA aircraft would be a higher profile and cause a massive worldwide storm, but KQ are equally at risk. Security at NBO is very tight as with the majority of airports but these guys will find a way eventually and I hate to say it, it might be just a matter of time before something dreadfull happens.
Let’s hope they get bored trying!
