Sorry forgot to add that I apologise if there are any spelling or grammar errors in my post as trying to write the postings on an iPhone and kindle and both have an odd auto correct system.

Hi guys thanks for the response.
What I was getting at was that people don’t seem to read what had been posted within a thread just a few posts previous. For example the thread relating to the band members, questions asked within the thread and then answered by the mods like Moggy had then been asked again. I believe Moggy himself and others had mentioned this themselves within the thread.
At no time was I saying that one thread is more worthy than another or that the mods should police it with a heavy hand but for people to read what had been previously posted on the subject so that we dont keep covering the same ground.
We know how badly handled the Burma spitfire business has been but it does seem to have become a bit of a monster in its own right and in many cases.
The mods do a very difficult job and in no way is the original post meant as a criticism of them or what they do but a plea to self policing rather than censorship (heard that before in the news recently).
I can also appreciate the humour that is banded about about.
I am also not wanting to force my views on others but purely expressing a concern on the direction of some threads.
I would personally prefer to see the number of views that crated spitfires has had be surpassed by missing Lancaster crew in Normandy.

Visits FL yesterday (saturday) really enjoyed it not a classic but you can’t really complain with the types and numbers involved. All did a good job in testing wind conditions.
Bit surprised that no comment has been made about the three mustangs having a moment at one point with all three going in different directions with number three very nearly lossing it as it came over the top at a very low rate of knots. Very well done for the pilot to hold on to it.

Good to hear that progress is still being made, always look in on this thread and anything else linked to NEAM as its in my Dads neck of the woods. I am planing to drop in with any luck during my next visit(in a couple of weeks time), he is more interested in military vehicles so i was hoping to bring him along with the promise of seeing a few of the new additions in the new hanger are you expecting any more vehicles in place in the next few weeks?

Hi there, after reading yet another thread that seems to have got silly again I thought I would post my thoughts.
There is no comparison between the Vulcan and Sally B. They are two completey different operations.
Yes in the past we have had calls from the Sally B camp saying that if funds are not found then she may be grounded the following season, maybe not as dramatic as the “if we dont have the money by next week she will be scraped” approach from the Vulcan team.
And as regards the engine failures i think that anyone would/should be questioning the companies who refurbish/rebuild the engines and the guys that are fitting them.
The problem we have is that as a charitable trust and also a much loved feature of the airshow season for many years we seem to not be able to voice any worries or criticise it in any way. If it was a commercial concern then heads would be rolling by now due to lost revenue.
I am not in anyway mechanically minded but I would have thought that leaving bolts floating about within outlet pipes and badly manufactured bearings are pretty major issues which need to be addressed.
And just before anyone shoots me down in flames due to the comments made above both myself and my 11 year old son both missed seeing Sally B at Biggin the other weekend and that I for one have the greatest admiration for anyone who helps keep the great variety of aircraft that we see week in week out during the summer months. I have been going to airshows for many years (i think the first one I went to was at rochester well over 30 years ago). I think that anyone who spends the many hours required to keep aircraft like Sally B in the air should be given a medal from people who man the supporters stalls right the way up to the engineers who really get their hands mucky but that dosent mean that we as members of a public forum cannot ask questions as to whats gone wrong.
I hope that I have not upset anyone with the comments made and yes if I had the time and lived close enough to any of the groups who look after vintage aircraft then I would happily volunter.

I must admit like others I did for a moment think yes it is much like other Duxford shows, and having a 2 hour drive to get there does make me think twice.
But then again as we have lost two of my local shows Woodchurch and Lydd I am thankfull that Duxford are able to use the resources on site to give us a show. Again reading the various forums and magazines it again reminds us that the airshow/vintage aviation is not as strong as it once was due to many reasons alot seem to me caused by money or lack of it. We all know about the increase of fuel prices when filling up our cars let alone something like a warbird of vintage jet. Think about how many Hunters and vampire/venoms that used to me on the circuit, need I mention the Sea Vixen.
Of course insurance of the aircraft and of joe public and so on and so on….
The other problem is getting the pilots who have time on the aircraft itself something that again can only be a problem we is going to get bigger as time moves on, none of us are getting any younger the same goes for many of them.
And of course there is always the wonderful politician/rule makers who in one quick and easy motion can stop something like the Dakota from carrying paying passengers or a B-17 from taking to the skies due to the weight/insurance issue.
The RAF can be excused for not turning up in the numbers they once did due to the ever shrinking airforce and ever increasing work load.
So yes in some cases it is the same old Duxford and yes I will have to decide if I am going to go or not but at least at the moment I have that choice as not to make it sound to doom and gloom but there will be a time when we will not be able to see “yet another spitfire or another mustang”.
We have to be very thankfull that owners and volunters take the time and money, which as we know both are needed in large amounts to put something in the air for our enjoyment as well as theirs.
I look forward to seeing another Gladiator fly, the latest TFC Spit, a Swordfish which we have not seen for a good few years now and the many other types that are in the process of being restored and flown
Any way thats my take on things and as this is a forum you have the choice to agree/disagree.

    Thanks for the offer TexanTomcat.
Thankyou for your concern Zishelix, its not something that I would do of the cuff as of course a lot of damage can be caused by people doing things the wrong way. We all have various phobias which manifest themselves in different ways, which again are all treated in different ways and anything I will do will be with his agreement and his only.

It is not a criticism of the Carrier Experience it was just an example of one of the exhibitions which we have had problems with. Late on last year we visited the Coventry transport museum, great free museum but then you enter the next part of the museum which involves street scenes and then the visit goes down hill very quickly. The poor lad is almost beside himself and as soon as you mention anything about them he really becomes very unsettled.

Thanks again for the kind words and suggestions.
Thanks Seaking93 for the offer of help, may very well take you up on the offer at sometime if thats ok.
I will contact some of the companies that are local to us and just see what their response is, if not I may just have to get a shop one and just have it kicking around the garden just to get him used to it.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks for the response.
It has become a big problem with many museums/attractions as it really upsets him, we made the mistake of visiting the Carrier Experience at Yevilton which is great until you go into the various ops rooms which are very well set out but full of dummies. It is also becoming a problem with school trips etc as now adays many have/use them to bring it to life. He was hoping to visit HMS Belfast with the scouts and actually sleep on HMS Belfast and visit the IWM but this involves dummies again so he doesnt want to go an so will miss out on a great weekend.

    Thanks

I would just like to say thanks to Lindys Lad and Co for the updates and insight over the past few weeks, its great to see/hear what can be done with lots of enthusiasm, time and very little cash. We all see the results of the big players ie Duxford, Cosford and Hendon and their million pound palaces but its this sort of grass roots stuff we really need to harness. I have promised myself a trip to the museum when I`m next visiting relatives in Chester Le Street as its always been on my list of things to see when I`m there but never done.
