Maybe its an unmanned T-50 😉

Shhh, that’s 6 Gen already please don’t freak the Pentagon and US Congress out
Seriously I think it can be possible though because we have heard something about ‘artificial intelligent’ on PAK-FA before so I will give it a shot 😎

Most NATO Air Forces have less flight hours but a similar number of flights. To compare something you have to have the number of flights/landings and not of flight-hours. 😉

Well I will chime in here. I am pretty sure that the way Soviet allied countries counts fly hour quite differently:
My friend who is a pilot in VPA said that in Soviet and in Vietnam the flight hour is counted by the length of time you are airborne. That means take off, landing and taxi time do not count.

He also said that US and its allies count takeoff/landing and taxi time in the number of flight hours as well. As a result the number flight hour between Russian aircraft users and Western aircraft users might not be comparable.

So the 741 & 747 are meant for those models without wing-folding and refueling probe?
Or is there more to it? How about the new RD-33MKM engine?

Can you plz post the full translation? Google tranlate is not working for me.

    Aren’t those for Syria ?

Not a pleasant surprise in my opinion. They need a new designer for camo scheme 😀

That is soo nice of you to request for a comparison. But I think a better request would have been to ask an Asssie to report & write an article on the experience of the Aussie submarine fleet. Still, if you are interested in the comparison, please do start a new thread for the said comparison and spare this Russian Navy thread.

    gf0012-aust,
I hope you must be very eager to put forward your experience with Kilosand in case you are inclined to respond to the above request, please have it in a new thread. TIA.

Well I am aware of the subjective issue but if he decided to write on that I will certainly do more due diligence to verify all the fact. And yeah, if he decided to go on with the comparison we will do it in a new thread 🙂

    ….

I am quite interested in hearing your detailed valuation of Kilo class (preferably the 636). To be honest objective valuation is not available for submarine so I am looking for subjective one now from one who has experience with submarines. Comparison with the Western counterpart would also be nice. Thank you.

a number of nations already do have a degree of subsea mapping in place. however, as strange as it may seem, the subsea terrain does change, and seamounts can change in size and even location.

acoustic mapping is about signature profiling a platform, its quite complex, but to manage the emissions on your own assets involves either passing the platform through a 360deg array (min 270deg) or in the case of a couple of other solutions, driving a partial conformal array over the hull and then mitigating the spikes through phyical engineering, or electronic means.

a geo ship is limited in what it can achieve wrt to subs. even with ROV’s there are limitations, but the bulk of floor mapping is done by surface vessels, be they controllers or mappers in their own right.

if you don’t have correct floor mapping you can break things. the USN, PLAN and Japanese MSDF all being very recent examples of how drivers can inadvertently break their boats.

Hmm that’s interesting because I have not heard that sea mounts can change their positions. I guess it would depend on the level of tectonic activity right? Is there any difference between smaller ocean like East Sea (South China Sea) than say Pacific Ocean? What is the major difference in submarine warfare in a Blue Water area compare to Brown Water area?

Acoustic mapping signals will be built into a database type for the use of passive sonar right? You mean it’s difficult to do acoustic mapping because it’s difficult to manage your own ship emission that’s conducting the survey?

Can you use less abbrev since I am not in the military and it could be hard to understand at time. For e.g what does ROV mean?

I am really curious about the level of preparatory work needed to be able to use submarines effectively since my country is preparing for a fleet of 6.

    Thank you,

Very interesting. Thank you and I also have a question for you. I heard some rumors that underwater map and acoustic (?) atlas are very important for submarine warfare. Is it possible to use geographical exploration ship to create underwater map and acoustic atlas for military purpose?

No Stealthy Engine nozzles, No Single piece canopy. Boring.

Well India can always withdraw if it’s not happy and join the F-35 fray so it could get the stealthy nozzles and single piece canopy 😀

I thought that the 20 year law was only applicable to pharmaceuticals. Anyhow thanks for the post 🙂 You learn new stuff everyday.

PS: Isn’t the YF-22 almost 20 years old now ? I think its time to steal some blue prints 😎

Well you don’t need to steal. Technically it should be published publicly like patterns from Apple and you can download it for free 😀

Something wrong in using consultants when you own the IP rights to the existing design and it follow up ?

I really don’t get what you are trying to convey. ToT’s fit perfectly within the scope of idealism and pragmatism.

My limited understanding about IP right is as follow but it’s US law.
If you patent something the design will be yours or about 20 years or so depends on what you pattern and everyone would need to license your pattern to be able to use that technology. In that 20 years period if someone steal your tech through reverse engineer you can go to court and likely win.

If you don’t pattern it and decide to keep it as a business secret then you can hold on to the technology as long as you can if you can keep it secret. There is no time limit like in case of pattern. However the downside is if someone successfully reverse engineered it then they are rightfully allowed to use the technology.

However military tech is a different beast but judging by the PAK-FA testing process numerous patterns are filled for its technology so it should be a pattern case under russian law if the copy occurred before the pattern expired. However I am not sure if China is a law abiding citizen of Russia and International law 😮

Shooting down an F-111 with Kalashnikovs? A bull**** story if ever I heard one…:rolleyes

I am pretty sure I have heard of similar thing in Vietnam but I am not certain if it’s true. It’s often quite hard to attribute the kill to the respective AA unit since the density of AA network in Vietnam at that time. To be honest I think it’s just a political effort to attribute something to the citizen-turned-soldiers.
It’s certainly possible if the F-111 fly low but the odds are astronomical.
