Gepard 3.9s of the Vietnamese Navy:
The second image is not accurate Otaku π there’s a Palma system after the main cannon. You can see that in the 1st picture. The first Gepard will be delivered this September or October and the second one around November.
And Vietnam is planning to purchase two more Gepard with different configuration.
That video is funny. Everything from “Born Free” to “The Chronicles of Narnia” to “Pirates of the Caribbean” to “Command and Conquer: Generals” in there.
They may not like American equipment or American military forces very much, but they sure do like American music, movies, and video games!
Cheers,
Logan
Yeah I think so too. I guess Tchaikovsky’s music is not fit for this purpose, too π
Does anyone know if Russian Navy have got any plans to induct the Gepard 5.3 class of corvettes? Or have they got tangled in yet another order grabbing politics from rival shipyards and design bureaus??
Gepard 5.3 looks much better and meaner than the Project 20382 class and its a shame to see no order coming for these seemingly mean pocket destroyers. Even Vietnam’s order was unimpressive. Half a dozen of these with new 260Km Uran for the Argentenians would be good for them to help the Brits to re-consider their decision on drilling oil in Falklands. π
I don’t think that Russian Navy will consider the Gepard 5.3 because they are having project 20380/20382. Vietnamese Navy might be interest though, they are planning to buy the next 2 Gepard which will be armed with Club-N/Yakhont and better air defense.
Unfortunately 8 are fake (black stripes).
It’s not the real R-73 but it’s not fake either.
I guess it’s a UZR-73 with real IR-head for training purpose like the one in the picture above.
Why, the rejected Algerian examples in mind?!
No, I mean the sheer number of Mig-29 flying at the same time like this π
SMTssssssssssssssssssssss:
Geez, is this a photoshop Otaku? Looks unbelievable :diablo:
Don’t lose your time on Krylov Central Research Institute “vapourware”:D
Does this mean that this project Korvette-XXI-1 is unrealistic
Hi, snake65
Do you have any information if the Project 20380 ship with 8 Yakhont and navalized S-300 will be built?
Also, I found this online and I am kind of wondering about the accuracy
http://www.rusarm.ru/cataloque/navy/navy_48-51.pdf
The Korvet XXI-1 has displacement of 1930 tons and has 24 antiship missile slots, 32 long range SAM slots and 32 short range SAM slots :confused::confused:
Are 24 antiship missile slots for Brahmos/Onix/Club-N type ? Is that even possible to pack the firepower of destroyer on a 2000t corvette/frigate like that?:confused::confused:
Russia To Test New Unique Project 855 Yasen Nuclear Submarine
Russia will begin tests of its new state-of-the-art multi-purpose nuclear submarine Yasen, Project 855, already in 2010. The unique submarine qualitatively differs from all of its predecessors. Moreover, Yasen will become the first submarine, which was entirely built in Russia during the post-Soviet period, Oleg Burtsev, a senior spokesman for the command of the Russian Navy said.
The new submarine is to be launched in the beginning of May. JSC Sevmash, the company that builds all Russian submarines, is currently busy with making preparations to the landmark moment.
The submarine was named Severodvinsk. Engineers of the company said that it would be quieter and much more powerful than the USAβs Sea Wolf.
Severodvinsk is a twin-hull nuclear submarine with decreased level of acoustic field. The submarine has ten compartments. The cruiser carries an extraordinarily strong complex of arms capable of solving combat tasks with practically any type of modern surface vessels and submarines. For the first time in the history of domestic ship-building, torpedo-launching systems are located behind the compartment of the central station. The new sonar complex Irtysh was installed in the fore end of the sub. Severodvinsk has eight vertical missile-launching systems: each of the systems houses three missiles.
Anti-vessel 3M55 Onix missiles will reportedly become the basic attack weapon of the new submarine. The missile was designed to strike targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers under the condition of radio-electronic and combat resistance. The missiles are equipped with the system of artificial intelligence and can recognize all electronic images of surface vessels. They destroy the central target in a group, change their tactics and continue to destroy targets on the principle of their importance.
The new submarine will become the perfect weapon for military actions in the distant ocean zone. Official spokespeople for the Russian Navy said that the Severodvinsk would be passed into service in 2011.
Russia also plans to launch the serial production and put into service eight strategic submarines of Project 955, Borei class. The submarines will make the basis of Russiaβs strategic nuclear forces after 2018. The Yury Dolgoruky submarine is currently being tested in the White Sea. JSC Sevmash is currently building three nuclear submarines. Each of them will carry up to 20 intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The Russian Navy should have 50 nuclear submarines, Oleg Burtsev believes. Russia now has about 60 strategic, multi-purpose and diesel submarines. The navies of France, Britain and the USA have nine nuclear submarines on constant combat duty.
βWe should have two or three nuclear cruisers at sea as deterrent weapon. Other countries must know that Russia is always ready to respond to any attack,β Burtsev said.
Do you guys think that the 300 km range of Onix will be a little bit short for the role of the ship? Will they add booster or refine the missile so the range will be better ?
I think the range of the missile should be comparable to Granit

My estimation about the dimension of the weapon bay using the picture from the video clip that Flateric posted in paralay.
It’s reported that the fan diameter of 117 is 935mm so I think the diameter of the outer area will be approximate 950mm. That makes the bay width of around 1300mm and depth of around 880mm.
1) Rif M is installed in bow station on Piotr Veliky CBGN. Currently it still uses the 48N6E2 missile from Favorit (S-300PMU2) and respective FCS – 30N6E1 radar, AFAIK.
It ispossible to install 9M96E and 9M96E2 missiles from S-400 SAM. These missiles are much smaller than 48N6 (330 and 420 kg compared to 1800 kg) and they have respective range of 40 and 120 km. Four of them can be installed in one launch container of 48N6, much like ESSM quad launcher. Nevertheless, there are no indications, that this has been actually done on Piotr.
2) Regarding Your second question, it should be long range 3D Podberiozovik radar, an intended replacement for Voshod radar in Flag radar complex, installed on 1144, 1164 and others larger units. You can read about it here:

Hi Snake65
I have a question about the RIF-M system on Piotr Veliky:
They used 48N6E2 from S-300PMU and the fire control radar 30N6E1, both of them have maximum range of engagement of 200km in the equivalent system but why in the Rif-M their range are only 150km?
Is there any problems that affect the performance of the radar/missiles or both when convert them from ground-based to sea-based system?
Good thing Klinok can engage PGMs.
Curious though, what “bomb” would that be anyway?
Probably JSOW ? But I am not sure about its capability versus moving target like a ship moving at 20-30knots.

One of the features of the new destroyer will be a high level of environmental security, which so far is not a characteristic of Russian warships, he said.
Enviromental Security π may be this new destroyer will be hybrid, using electricity with fuel π
they are from Flanker, who put them on the web first at

Thanks Flateric, I am not really good with Russian. I fixed the tribute in my post now π
Nice pictures from Flanker: http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/showthrea…=1#post1377575
Sukhoi will never go for Flat Nozzle just to try achieve all aspect stealth.
And do you really think funding has nothing to do with this..
Well dream on.
Cost is one of the big question here.
Sukhoi are allready marketing this bird for future possible export.
And if the Cost per a/c don’t matter, who on earth do you think can possible affort this? The agility, fuel economy and conserving energy also play a role, but i still think Cost/time is the biggest issue here.
Thanks
Again, I don’t think cost is a main issue nor the technology since we have seen somewhere that they tested the 2D vector nozzle engine on Su-27.
I think it has to do more with their design philosophy.
Despite of that, we can’t anticipate what they will do so the we should wait to see its final configuration π
