BTW
Except for http://www.lashendenairwarfaremuseum.co.uk you may find it veryt difficult to buy a copy of Volume 3. Stan told me that most retailer margins would be to high and make it un-viable fort him. (Even his own brothers shop!) so he is selling it mostly direct. I got mine on Xmas eve and it was a great present. All contact details are on the web site,. Roll on Volume 4…. 5, 6 and 7 – I will need a bigger shelf

I wonder now how many people realise that at the time of the BoB movie Duxford was under serious consideration for being turned into Britains latest prison.

b) Can request (if not already digitized) for the personnel record to be made avialable online here:

Dunno if it costs or is free
Reading the article and the stuff posted here.. Maybe we can identify some of “the last of around 10 complete rebuilds”
Well..
1) The Travel Air Mystery Ship, is NR-613K ex Bames Aviation, Mojave, California
2) We know that there were the FHC Me 262A-1a/U3 wk/nummer 500453
3) FW-190-A5 is W.Nr 1227 also for FHC
The article mentions a Mustang “The Mustang is the easiest to work on. “
could this be FHC P-51D 44-72364 but my understanding is this was restored at WestPac….
4) On this posting there is comment to a ‘second Fw-190’ ‘which one’ this must be the Fw190D-13 ex Champlin W.Nr. 836017 that might have spent some time there or of course could be a comment on the fact they are both rare!!
Assumptions 1 of 10 is ex TFC ‘Grumpy’ B-25D-30 Mitchell 43-3318
So that leaves 5 or 6 more mysteries….
I think one may be a Storch?
Unrestored (ASAIK) are:
1) CASA 2.111 – c/n 167 B.2I-37
2) Mosquito – TV959
BTW ‘of the ones that got away he is still smarting about Serbia from where he was deported’ is also a question that I would love to know what!!!!
