    Combat Report Form F

    11th August 2013

I was flying a Hawker Sea Hurricane Mk 1b Serial Z7105 on 11th August 2013 over Shuttleworth Aerodrome when I spotted the Enemy Kite (correction it was not a Kite but a Pigeon – Intelligence Officer) preparing to dive bomb the field at 1000 feet. I took immediate action and managed to “wing it” with my starboard wing. The pigeon was totally destroyed

I claim 1 kill 100% Write-off as witnessed by a few thousand people

    signed Keith Dennison

Are they going to paint a “kill” marking under the cockpit?

Can’t find this incident in any Virginia Histories in the Air Britain J Serials book. Shame the serial number not shown, some 58 Sqn codes are listed but no ‘V’ I am afraid I am sure another photo will eventually turn up which shows a serial – there are enough people around it so that can’t be the only photo in existence

If it was a Spitfire, they’d have it flying again by now from a piece that size! 😉

Yes but it also had a robust provenance!!!

    Unlike some Spit……

“It gave specific details of the actual aircraft the prop came from”

Interesting what is the story behind it? thanks Paul

Yes a few of these anomalies I have two RAFO Officers killed in 1939 on war work not on CWGC as RAF does not consider them ‘in service’ and I have a Wife of a senior officer who died after ww2 outside the UK who for some unbeknown reason has a grave maintained by the CWGC!

Interesting… Not doubting the mans story but I wonder if he has some of the details wrong…19 Sqn were the first to receive Spitfires, if they were fast tracking a Spitfire to its first 500 hours then it would make more sense doing it there.

However, a lot of the early Spitfires were written off or had accidents early in Service as pilots often ‘forgot’ to put wheels down

thus, you could NOT predict which aircraft hit 500 hours first…

    Saying that

    http://www.airhistory.org.uk/spitfire/p001.html

Shows 66 Sqn’s first Spit appears to be K9804

    But look at these two…

K9789 Ia 3 EA MII 19S Duxford 4-8-38 intensive service trials
K9790 Ia 4 EA MII 19S 11-8-38 intensive service trials VA stripped for detailed exam

Oh no the “Spitfire People’s Front” or the “People’s Front of Spitfire” will be manning the barricades over that….
