“About 1978 I was teaching a chap to fly who had done a tour in the Far East
as a crewman on an RAF rescue launch. He showed me some photos of Curtis P40 aircraft which had been dumped in shallow water close to one of the
airfields there. Maybe it was Labuan. I was never able to get my own copies,
but I remember that although in pretty rough condition, the aircraft seems
to be pretty well complete and with engines still fitted. Does anyone know
if those airframes have ever been recovered , or are they still there. They
only seemed to be in about ten feet of water. There were quite a lot of
them.His photos were of a couple that had been dragged out, so I wonder what became of those? He said there were quite a few others in the water.
