This is S. Korean “Shin-gung (Arrow of God)” SAM missile, which has technical tie-up with French Mistral and Russian Igla.

Including all development and life cycle costs, the highest estimate I’ve seen for the F-22 is “only” $350 million per unit – or as little as $130 million if you just include direct production expenses.

I have to admit that the unit costs of the Saudi Eurofighter order make the B-2 look cheap. Sure, the B-2s might have cost $2.1 billion each, if you factor in R&D, but Northrop-Grumman once quoted a cost of just $650 million per unit for a follow on order.

Even F-15K costs almost 100 million per unit why not tranch-3 EF-2000 should be 80 millions per unit?

Boeing had also committed to working on any new fighter that the SK might plan as part of the F-15K deal!!

These list are only deal with F-15K offset option which ROK wanted to get for KFX project and Boeing has simply deals with technology, but also not agreed with KFX project.

    Unable to understand you here

Are you saying South Korea purchased the above technologies from the US?

Or are these offsets given to South Korean companies for the F-15 K order- like Hyundai can work on projects for “fly by wire” design for Boeing ?

Is it 1 or is it 2?

Some technologies already purchased from Boeing and it is being on instruct. And some tech will researches by ADD.

I’m skeptical whether Korea can pull it off. It is difficult to start building a stealth fighter without the accumulated experience of building fighter jets and engines. They should probably start from the basics and aim for something more achievable.

Do they know how to make their own powerful turbofan engine? Own fighter? how about experience producing fighters? About indigenous radars, missiles?

Russia can pull it off with more funding, they have lots of experience and expertise. China can probably do it since they have demonstrated the ability to make their own turbofan engine, SD-10 missile(The Chinese AMRAAM), indigenous radar, fly by wire, chinese cruise missiles, weapons, etc….not to mention the Chinese domestic J-10 fighter.

what Japanese ATD-X stealth fighter? HUH? how much progress?

As a assemble part, South Korea has producing T/A-50, and also licensed F-16 Block 52 and F-5 before. I agreed with your opinion this fighter is not going to be shows any better than F-22/35. As ROKAF plan, this fighter would be air-support fighter, not the AIR-SUPERIOR one as F-22.

As a missile part, Air-to-Air missile development is on the progress with russian technology.

Engine and Radar system will be import.

Japanese ATD-X is the only project to find out what they have ability to design stealth structure or not. This is not a specified project as KFX.

in F-15K Offset order options, South Korea purchased 69 of aviational technology (which is about 1.548 billions dollar). And these tech will be really to take big parts of KFX project .

Here I’m giving to you some example of F-15K offset order about avionic design part.

    Flight control
    Fly-By-Wire design
    Joint Servo Actuator design
    Steer-By-Wire design

    Electronic/warfare control
    JHMCS design
    Operating computer design
    Data link design
    Equipment integration and control
    NVIS design

    Equipment
Aircraft – Equipment linking system design

    Equipment Design
    Air-to-Air missile design

    Structure Design
    ‘Smart Structure’ design
    Supersonic design
    Single-piece complex body design

    Shape/Structure design
Newest Delta-Canard design and 2 other tech.

    Engine
    Electronic engine-control system design

And other other technologies that it’s include RAM paint design.

As Korean’s view, U.S doesn’t really putted any kinds of effort on this project, no, I will say they should not puts any help on this project. Boeing withdrawed with this stealth fighter development right after this project launched. And now ROKAF even worries about radar and engine for KFX.

Few months ago Lockhead-Martin displayed F-35A mock-up in Seoul Airshow and they were trying to ‘convince’ ROKAF that they can deliever F-35A by 2014. Well, actually South Korean government discussed about this issue. I don’t know what they have been decided about this stealth fighter dealing.

U.S will not going to look one of his market will disappears/smaller. There is “possibility” that they can puts WTO rules on Weapon trade market 😀

But one thing I’m so sure South Korean government reduced the budget to order additional 40~60 F-15K to 20, because they wanted to watch until 2011 to see this domestic situation about stealth fighter. Actually, they want to get F-22/35. (Especially, ROKAF is going to watch F-22 dealing on Japan)

In my case, I will define these movement as ‘interruption’. I think there are lots of possibilities that ROKAF will be step on the same way what Japanses did on FS-X project. I hope this is not going to be one like that. And I really hope to see ‘beautiful’ (not a ugly monster) darling soon :p

Anyone know the radar suite for new KDX-2 batch IIRC radar suite in the current version is quite disappointing considering the potential of the vessel and its cost.

KDX-2 Wang-Gun (Batch 2, 4th ship of KD-2 series) have these radar packages.

    Anti-Air – SPS-49V (C/D Band)
    Anti-Sea – MW-08 (G Band)
    Fire control – STIR 240 (I/K Band)
    Navigate (Anti-Ship) – SPS-95K (C Band)
    IFF – UPX 27.

And, no one knows about KDX-2 Batch 3’s radar ’til ROK Navy announce it.

I’m not sure that it is exactly correct but I heard from someone that he told me the prices of AEGIS system.

    SPY-1D : $350,000,000
    SPY-1F : $300,000,000

Few years ago, When South Korean Navy ordered SPY-1D, they ordered with Japanese and U.S Navy. I remember Korea and Japan bought each 3 of ’em. (I can’t remember how many of SPY-1D package U.S Navy bought.)
I don’t really think that KDX-2 Batch 3 uses the SPY-1F because of the prices. It is just my opinion but I think ROKN should be order SMART-S radar system.

Nothing has been determined yet. LPX is a long-term project. There is still many oppurtunity for additional orders. I never imaged we could get the 6 KDX-3 as suggested by the Navy leadership. There have been too many contradicting reports on the activity of the Navy and the government plans, but the reduction and even cancellation of the KDX programs have been discussed before, but its still here, and two ships are undergoing construction as we speak. We’ll see.

Also, Korean Navy wanted to build 3 task force.
Most of Korean amateur specialist think it is not a good decision to build only 3 KDX-3 destroyer to against enemy. (You might able to imagine who’s going to be a biggest competitor for Korean Navy around in Northeast Asia. Additionally, North Korean Navy is not even able to get in the list 😀 )

And ‘Gwangdolei’ in Yu Yong-Won’s Military World also believed 99% that Korean National Defence Committee already made decision with it.
(He told us he had got information from ‘well-informed person’ in Navy.)

Some of people thought Korean Navy have delayed to build LPX project because they already had perceived these streams in the Committee.

But as KJLost mentioned, these issues have not determinded and announced yet.

A force centered around 3 KDX-3 and 6 KDX-2 and SSKs (in addition to the frigate force) would have possibilities of forming a strong task group that can operate out of area while still not leaving coastal and EEZ zone unprotected. More may be overstretching South Korean naval resources at this point in time.

But, what how do you thinking about ignored plan that Korean Navy submitted to Korean National Defence Committee?
(They asked to build 4 more KDX-3 destroyer, 2 more LPX and KSSX-3 (3000 ton AIP submarine))

Additionally, lots of Korean amateur military specialist and fans complain about the decision to build 6 KD-2 Batch 3, 3 U-214, and 4 LST, FFX, PKX rather than 3 KDX-3, 3 LPX, 3 KSSX-3.
