I don’t think they’ll go for the MiG-29 – it is an old design despite upgrades.
Perhaps the Indians have strenghtened their ties with BAe now that the Hawk deal is finally going ahead and the Indians might be able to get a sweet deal on the EF2000 especially if the British cancel their Tranche 3. A large Indian order will compensate any price increase from the cancellation of Tranche 3.
Rafale as already mentioned has not sold anywhere and an Indian order would give it some badly needed credibility on the export market.
And PLA who is that chick on your avatar? Her haunting eyes are driving me nuts!!!
The question arises what happens in about 2020 when many of the US airframes will be reaching the end of their lives? The F-22 was meant to replace ageing F-15’s. I seriously doubt that the F-35 will be in service in considerable enough numbers to replace all the F-15’s and F-16’s that will be expiring in the near future. There was talk in a recent AFM of cutting the US fighter fleet. Is this going to happen?
Apparently Croatia only operates the 12 MiG-21’s (8 bis, 4 UM) that were refurbished in Romania a couple of years ago. I think the Mi-24 fleet is grounded. Croatian Mi-24 pilots may get flight hours in Macedonia.
I have heard that not all of the PC-9’s are operational.
It seems that the whole US defence procurement strategy has become one big cluster f@%k.
The F-22 program is finally reaching maturity after near two decades, and instead of becoming the backbone of the USAF it will become a silver bullet much like the B-2 or F-117. Such fleets are costly to maintain because of a lack of economies of scale. Furthermore any attrition from accidents will reduce the effectiveness of the aircraft as will the need for it to be maintained.
Cancelling the C-130J program will leave the US with hundreds of ancient C-130E/H’s whose usage rates will surely affect their future performance. Have there been any proposals to at least increase the acquisition of C-17’s to make up for the proposed C-130J cancellation?
And the really idiotic thing is that they are proceeding with the acquisition of the V-22, an aircraft that is potentially impractical, and the F/A-18E/F, an aircraft that is arguably no better than exisiting combat aircraft and even possibly a downgrade in comparison to the F-14’s it’s replacing.
Sshhhhh……dont hit upon PLA !!!! 😀
Ah…wouldn’t that be great? A gorgeous chick who is an aviation enthusiast?
(…and also owns a bottle shop, owns a Nissan 350Z (that she lets you drive) and likes Heavy Metal)
PLA who is that gorgeous babe on your avatar? She has a haunting stare….
And Megadeth will still own :D.
How true, fellow Metal brethren!!!
1. Hilary Duff still won’t marry me. 🙁
2. Cancellation of tranche 3 Eurofighter acquisition by the Brits (if it already hasn’t happened).
3. More Chinese Su’s.
4. Metallica will still suck.
The RNZAF’s P-3’s are not that sophisticated, at least in comparison to USN or even RAAF P-3’s. The RNZAF’s P-3’s are P-3B’s delivered in the 1960’s (together with an ex-RAAF P-3B acquired in 1985. The P-3’s went through an avionics update in the 1980’s to become P-3K’s.
The latest update for the P-3 will see the replacement of avionics and mission systems.
Besides maritime patrol the P-3’s are also useful in SAR ops as well as participating in peacekeeping operations.
Oh my god what have I done? I just wanted to bag out the Frenchies cause they didn’t support my campaign in Iraq (I am George Dubya Bush after all).
And now everyone is hating everyone and my chocolate bar has melted.
Oh the humanity!!!!!
You are all really funny. Every mandate is different. You cannot compare the UN-mandate with that from Unprofor, nor with Unosom, Unmik, Unmogip, … Unprofor was a peace keeping mission where – en bref – the UN-troops were not allowed to interfere in combat. Only try to seperate without using any force. Unosom was – on the other hand – a peace enforcement operation. This means that the use of force is allowed to seperate fighting factions. Now, I don’t know the mandate they have in Ivory Coast, but it is possible that it includes destroying military assets. Never compare two different UN-mandates. And if I remember well, not all french troops in Ivory Coast operate under the UN-flag. It’s like the US-troops in Somalia: some were there for the UN, some were for the USA-purposes. Same with the Belgians in Ruanda (some were Unamir-troops, but with the evacuations in ’94, others came and were not operating on behalf of the UN).
Hence I said that I had no idea what parameters they were operating under.
They are also there on behalf of the UN. Obviously desperate to dig up dirt on France………..very sad 😡
I’m not a big fan of French foreign policy, cause it’s really hypocritical. France opposes the U.S. invasion of Iraq cause the Hussein regime has really close ties to the French government and cause he owes a crap load of cash for weapons supplied during the 1980’s Iran-Iraq war. Frenchies don’t like Iran having nukes, but thought it was OK to test nukes at Mururoa in the Pacific up to a couple of years ago. They also thought it was OK to kill a Greenpeace activist by blowing up the Rainbow Warrior in the 1980’s.
Then there’s the fun that the French government had with people in Vietnam, Algeria and Egypt (1956)….to paraphrase that god-awful song “…it’s raining bombs, hallelujah!” The actions in Chad against the Libyans in the past helped Chad, but I think they also serve to support French interests in her former colonial possessions.
So of course I have a distrust of the French government.
Hardly preemptive. They got hit, they struck back. Thats not preemption but retaliation. Perhaps you follow a different dictionary than the rest of us? 🙂
UN peacekeeping doctrine specifies that UN forces may only fight to defend themselves when attacked. The planes were on the ground. I have no idea of what sort of parameters the French are operating under.
However I doubt the Ivory Coast attacked those French deliberately. Probably poor information caused the strike. So there probably should have been an investigation into the matter. Ivory Coast has a right to maintain an airforce.
I think the French forgot that they no longer run the Ivory Coast.
I just got back from the Negev, where something more or less similar happened:
There was a big drill that morning, that included tanks and helicopters that were firing missiles, so we were adviced to stay in the same place for a few hours.
While resting, a group of girls went to do what they had to do. A few minutes later, a UH-60 appeared from nowhere, about 20 meters above us and directly where these girls were. I only later realized that the pilots might have “enjoyed the view” :diablo:
Were they going to the toilet? “Doing what they had to” sounds like they were going to the toilet.
If so, yuck. Nothing is more unsexy than a chick taking a dump….
Show Us Your **** is an Australian institution. We take every possible opportunity to say it, especially at rock gigs where there’s some chicks playing. Their music would be so much more “interesting” if they did show us their ****.
By the way, did any chick actually respond by flashing them, and if so is there any footage? 😀
