Thanks Peter G,
How sure are you?
Just that’s an extremely low number compared to the other 2 sources I checked and I would like to confirm.
Roughly 200 or so transport versions with the Air Force and Navy.
Thank you Peter G.
Any idea on Army numbers?
I love these because everyone always panics and the share price drops.
Then I buy BAE shares and they go back up again. As long as its not a churchill matrix style issue the money making scheme always works
roll on another scandal…..
On another note due to the stupid restrictions in the PFI contract we can’t buy the refueling pods for the Airbus a400 transport which would allow us to refuel the Merlin HC3. Also precludes us purchasing a refueling capability for our new carriers via the V22 Osprey. The US Marines are funding a palletised refueling rig for the V22 to support their F35b off the Assault ships. A V22 purchase would solve the range and payload issues with the RN F35 purchase as well as introduce a suitable COD and MASC type.
What restrictions are these that dont allow us to buy the refueling pods for the A400?
And why does it preclude us from purchasing a refueling capability for our carriers?

Can all C-130s air to air refuel in RAF service?
Can all C-130s air to air refuel in RAF service?
Add to the list Merlin HC3 and Boeing C17, neither types do air to air refueling in RAF service but are capable of it.
ASTOR had air to air refueling deleted from the specification.
Rock and roll!
Nice one

C-17 and the Sentinel are the 2 I am debating but I am unsure on either

There is no standard for anything (or so it seems) on the NH90. They’re not building three different versions, they’re building six dozen different versions.
The Selex FLIR 111 is for the TTHs with weather radar. That small horizontal Coke-bottle. Some seem to use just an Selex NTI. And basically there is no reason why one shouldn’t use a big ball FLIR/EO combo instead. Just money.
The NFHs use the big Selex EOST 23 (?) turret, but what’s actually in the ball is up to the customer (most of the NFHs seem to use it only for a FLIR). The French chose the Sagem IRIS. And some want the big ball, but a weaker FLIR in it (like the Dutch).Seldom seen such ****ty integration of warfighting systems. That aircraft started with quite sleek looks, “stealthy” and all. But now it has so many bumps and warts, looks like a SOCOM model, even though it’s just standard. Did they first design a helicopter and only then thought about where to put the warfighting stuff? Guess CFRP makes it real hard to place things inside, afterwards?
Very interesting.
So the FLIR III is on all TTH variants that come with a weather radar? Do most folks opt for the weather radar?
NFHs use the big Selex EOST 23 but different countries can, in effect, add different tubes.
very funny
Anyone who is familiar with czech procurement get a feel as to whether this is a realistic dream or not in the long run?
I see the defence budget is rising strongly again.
Minimal state of CzAF is 24 supersonics in two squadrons according Czech strategical document Vise 2010 Armády České republiky. So in 2010 acording plans Vision 2010 of Czech Army Czech goverment will decide if the Czechlands will buy other 10 or even 22 new gripens in 2015. That will be about money, sure is 10 new supersonics maybe 22 (somebody have talked). But there is nothing sure about Gripen, the Czechs can return gripens to Sweden, because Czech gripens is only leased without compulsory to purchase after the end of lease agreement and buy another type, it´s question of money and offering. But chiefs of army talk about satisfaction with gripens, so there is chance to purchased some 24 advanced gripen´s version or C version modernisation. We can see in 2010.
Thanks alot, great information. I knew the basics but wasnt sure where the program stood today.
