An excellent response. Thank you very much.
Does anyone know if all Eurofighter nations are getting the Head Equipment Assembly (HEA)?
Hey, another question, are the Eurofighter-Typhoon Head-Tracker System on just Spanish and UK Tranche 2 and 3 aircraft Or all tranches of airaft?
Are they on German and Italian aircraft?
UK Parliament criticism of RAF Transport capability
It always amazes when the organization responsible for funding and furthering programs for an agency turns around and criticizes that agency for being deficient………after that organization was responsible for the money and resources available to it.
Not just in terms military procurement, but, all government purshasing programs.
Allot me $25 dollars for a lemonade stand and then harangue me because it is not modern, wired, all-weather, handi-capable, or multi-lingual.
*******s….
Exactly what I thought.
I suggest the MoD turn to Ukraine and Russia based freight and transport groups to support their presence. That should raise enough of a fuss to guarentee future funding and ensure enough support in the short term to relieve pressure on existing assets.
Just a guess: Could it be for Romania’s IAR-330’s? AFAIK Israel’s Elbit modernized 20+ (24?, 25?) of Romania’s Puma’s. By any chance, could this be something of a follow on order?
Lastly, what was the E/O system of those modernized IAR-330’s?
THey supplied 26 SOCAT societies. The last delivery was in 2005, so I think its highly unlikely.
Ben
With a full suite of the latest EO sensors, FLIR and laser designator I would expect max. up to 30 systems for the price, not 74.
Hey Flex,
Well, I guess if its at the very top end, maybe 75K a unit plus initial spares could make it into the 30-40 bracket.
I don’t think it’s for Turkey’s A-129’s. They (T-129 actually) will use ASELFLIR-300 produced by ASELSAN.
From the report I understand that the systems are for armed utility helicopters. Must look at recent procurement and modernization programmes for armed utility helicopters.
By the way, how many systems does it make for USD 37 million?
At around $500k per unit (for SAFIRE or Chlio) it would be about 74.
Its not going to be the Apache’s for Taiwan.
I will keep looking.
anyone know what the EW suite fit is?
For future reference, if you make a claim you need to provide a source.
The above says nothing about a formal request for 60 aircraft, just that Israel briefly raised the subject during a one day meeting.
Good luck in finding out 🙂
sealordlawrence – for future reference you will find that if you type in Flight international into Google. Then type what you are looking for into their search engine its comes up quickly and easily. :).

Israel in talks with USA over F-22 orders
By Arie Egozi
Israel has approached the USA about acquiring Lockheed Martin F-22s as concern mounts about new threats to the country’s regional air superiority.
Sources say that the issue was raised during a one-day trip by US defence secretary Robert Gates to Israel last week.
Washington has so far not authorised the export of the Raptor stealth fighter, but sources in Israel say this is the first time a “reasonable” request has been made.
Among the subjects discussed with the country’s prime minister and defence minister were Israel’s concerns about the USA’s possible sale of advanced weaponry to Saudi Arabia and the Israeli intelligence assessment of the Iranian nuclear programme.

I should add, without prejudice, that Israel has formally requested 60 F-22s.
4 years on. Anyone think that Israel will still get F-22s?
What about the AH-64’s ? They are not at full longbow spec are they ? Maybe an upgrade there or some changes in response to recent operational experience ?
Nice set of answers!
AH-64’s are already the D varient with the APG-78 radar.
However, I think in relation to recent operational experience i could see an upgrade to their air-ground situational awareness/communications capability.
With 100 plus fast movers and the F-35 in the future they may need to upgrade their air to air refuelling as I think they only have 2 KC10’s ?
Would they really need any more KC10s? They have a third DC-10 they could convert though.
Also how modern is the maritime recon and intelligence capability ?
They modernized all the P-3Cs and then retired them. They upgraded some F70s to carry out MPA duties in their stead. I believe they are going to use UAVs for MPA activities in the future.
Recce wise. They got some recce pods 2 years ago. Although SIGINT they are almost non-existant. A SIGINT UAV could be developed I guess.
C-130 fleet looks a little small as well, if I remember correctly they only have 2 or 3 aircraft, presumably this is being addressed ? Are there any plans for a long range lifter as the Netherlands do still just have a global reach.
They got 2 additional C-130s about 2 years ago but is 4 C-130s really enough I wonder. Probably not. I could see them getting some heavy lift.
🙂
I was thinking more along the lines of Missile Warning systems, Radar warning systems etc 😀
