I used to watch F1 avidly on TV, but now find it totally boooooring! The time is better spent on this Forum among friends (at least I hope you are!)

Strange, I also lived at Waddo in the 1950s and the hangars and surroundings were totally different – usernamechanged, can you please tell me where it was?

Which airfield is in the background? Coningsby? I lived at RAF Coningsby around 1967 but don’t recognise anything!

1. First ever helicopter ride – over Oshkosh.
2. Flying in formation with a Martin Mars on a firebombing mission.

Here’s a colour profile from page 110 of “The History of the Royal Air Force”.
It shows FK375 of No 14 Sqn in August 1942.First used for bombing operations, they were later used for minelaying and shipping reconnaissance.

1939 Fairey Swordfish RCAF HS498 parts, awaiting restoration. Powered by a 690 hp Bristol Pegasus 9-cylinder radial engine and known affectionately as the “Stringbag”, this particular aircraft last flew in 1948.
