Cormorant
Cormorant being serviced at Comox, August 2004
My notes tell me that G-AGPV was withdrawn from use in July 1963, perhaps as a result of that incident? I would appreciate confirmation if anyone can give it, so as to update my notes.
Neat!
Betty’s Dream
Would that be this Betty’s Dream, as at Oshkosh in 2003?
Sorry, Albert, there was so much to see at Oshkosh (on my first ever visit) that I was completely overwhelmed and didn’t get any further details!

If it’s a conventional print or negative, scan it at the highest resolution you can – e.g. 600 or 1200 dpi if your computer can handle it.
If it’s digital, there’s no remedy really.
I believe Photoshop Elements is not hugely expensive, by the way, and enables a geat deal of correction to be done, although I personally use Photoshop 7 itself, which was expensive! Even that should come down in price as it gets older.
This’ll be the “before” picture, then (a couple of weeks ago).
Now I really must go back in the summer!
It would have saved a lot of argument if FI had updated and corrected their headline instead of putting a tiny correction in the corner that is not very easy to detect!
If you watch the movie closer you`ll see the bird flying clearly left of the Pitot tube.
Port means left looking in the direction of motion.
(motion of the aircraft, not the bird!)
Can you see all or part of the serial number on the original photo?
I just found exactly the same photo marked “Author’s collection” on page 12 of Paul R. Hare’s “Aeroplanes of the Royal Aircraft Factory” published by Crowood. I does however appear to have been retouched in the sky area where your picture shows the aircraft. Mysterious!
After seeing the various opinions expressed in this thread, I have modified my position – the P.111A is “a star” at MAM, which in all respects a marvellous collection, and I no longer think, for that reason, that it should move to Cosford to be among its contemporaries. However it does deserve to at least go under cover for its own long-term preservation. Thank you all for your interesting comments, which I for one hope will lead to a better future for this wonderful aircraft.

Here’s the view from my balcony on the 6th floor – we get some pretty big ships going past . . .
