Regarding post #19, if (preferable every episode of) “Airline” found its way on to DVD, I would be very happy to securely store a copy over here in Sweden, where it would be safe against terrorist attacks, mildew, etc.!
Of course I would have to play it through first to make sure it was properly recorded!

Stirling single
Don’t miss the Stirling Single at York, in my opinion one of the most beautiful locomotives ever built.

I was at Grantham in the mid-1950s and we used to put pennies (remember them?) on the track where the LNER Pacifics slowly crushed them to twice normal size while backing up to the sheds. Halcyon days! Health and safety would be horrified at the things we kids used to do! Of course I’m a Grandpa now!

Where is RAF Farnham?
The second one is the McDonnell XHJD-1 44318 from 1946, later redesignated XHJH-1
Have a great day, Andy

Come on, chaps, this is a steam locomotive, not a steam train, the locomotive and coaches behind it form a train!

The S.31 “baby Stirling” was a single-seater, first flown by John Piper at Rochester Airport on 19 September 1938. Later flown by several other pilots.
Sorry, Melv, my little book says that G-AIDN was the only Spitfire at SBAC in 1948 (and 1947 for that matter).
Could that be the KD equivalent of the laurel wreath badge? Or a Warrant Officer’s badge?
It’s a very long time since I wore KD, but I have vague memories of something like that. I was only a Sergeant at the time, but lived in the Sergeant’s Mess, of course.
Read the whole story, if you can, it’s a true tale of fortitude!
