Perhaps a moderator would be kind enough to move my additional information on these photos over from the original thread too?
The Vernon in post #19 is a Mk I model, J6867. These aircraft cost GBP 6000 each!
Regarding posts #14 and #51, an identical photo of Vickers Viking Mk V serial N157 with uncowled Lion engine is on page 123 of my Putnam “Vickers Aircraft since 1908” by C.F. Andrews. This was one of two attached to 70 Sqn in Iraq to explore the feasibility of using amphibian aircraft in such areas as the Middle East.
Here in Gothenburg I am virtually forced to use Ryanair for my fairly frequent trips to the UK and never manage to get a flight for less than 100 pounds. “Low cost” doesn’t exist over here. The “service” is virtually non-existent and I would gladly use any other airline if I could, except that BA and SAS prices are daylight robbery – due I suppose to the Scandinavian monopoly/cartel!
One thing I particularly hate is the excruciating wait for baggage to be offloaded and delivered at Säve “airport” as the aircraft turns straight round – it has to be loaded and depart before the handler(s) (perhaps there is only one) deal with incoming luggage – never less than a 45 minute wait for your bags – it would be better for them to leave the trolleys on the tarmac and let us get our own bags!
Incidentally on my most recent flight a week ago the guy in front of me reclined his seat fully as soon as he sat down (before takeoff) and only raised it when told by the cabin crew, then reclined it again as soon as possible – for a 1h 40 min flight he was thus sitting in my lap – horrible, and unnecessary in my opinion for such a short flight!
Marvellous pix, Jochen, must have been a great holiday, almost too much sun, perhaps!
True enough, italian harvard, surely the Typhoon at RIAT is about as modern a military aircraft as it could be, i.e. there’s another Forum tailor-made for it.

Victoria Memorial is a sculpture in London, in front of Buckingham Palace.
It was built by the sculptor Thomas Brock, in 1911. The surround was constructed by the architect Aston Webb, from 2,300 tons of white marble.
It has a large statue of Queen Victoria facing north-eastwards towards The Mall. The other sides of the monument feature dark patinated bronze statues of the Angel of Justice (facing north-westwards toward Green Park), the Angel of Truth (facing south-eastwards) and Charity facing Buckingham Palace. On the pinnacle, is Victory with two seated figures. The subsidiary figures generously gifted by the people of New Zealand.
The whole sculpture has a nautical theme, much like the rest of the mall (Admiralty Arch etc). This can be seen in the mermaids, mermen and a hippogriff, all of which are suggestive of Britain ruling the waves.
I saw at least one of those lenses at Legends, but it was supported by a monopod – surely a professional wouldn’t hand-hold such a monster?

1. To me it looks as if you are scanning from a photo album and that you are not closing the scanner lid – if you can take the photos out of the book and place them directly on the scanner glass you will avoid the bright splashes!
If you cannot either take them out of the book or at least take the pages out temporarily, try covering the rest of the glass with a thick black cloth.
2. Once the pictures are scanned in (I suggest at 200 or even 300 dpi), use Photoshop or a similar program to reduce the pixel size, as described many times already on this Forum (use Search and try “pixel” to find those threads).
3. I have given up asking for a photo advice sub-forum!!! The requests by myself and others are consistently refused, and you are the latest of many to ask the same old questions – no offence, but at least it would be a more useful addition to the Forum than much of the other stuff that appears.
Many happy returns, Mike, see you soon!
De Havilland Don
I say, chaps, that’s a bit mean, I can think of at least a hundred other aircraft that are uglier than the Don (mostly French and American, by the way).
What on earth do fighters have to do with the subject of this thread – the Canadian SAR contract?
