    Education

I left school a long time ago! It was a secondary modern school in the fifties and I had not a single qualification. However ,as we all know education is always an ongoing thing and to those who do not get good results there will always be another chance!Actually eleven months after leaving school I joined the R.A.F. and went back to school for 18 months(boy entrant).Still no certificate at the end of that! After the R.A.F. I joined a government organisation(electricity )and had to study by correspondence course for three years!Much later during a period of unemployment I did a sandwich course at university(not bread making!),this at 45 !So ,my written english is far from perfect but I make an effort and I have to agree that reading on many forums the standard of english is just not good enough.who is to blame?

Obviously they where up to no good!!Possibly smuggling blackmarket goods! I had an aquaintance who was a scriptwriter and he was researching the captains of Fairmile boats that used to do raids across the channel, some of them apparently used to sneak into small french ports and indulge in a bit of wine running!?

    take it off!

The fact is most airlines give out “free drinks”,of course nothings free so how much goes on the ticket price? Poor show if a person cant do without alcohol for about 10/12 hours!

I wonder if the merlin survived?

    Underground

Just to keep this ticking over! While training at St Athan there was a rumour that there were underground hangers on 19 M.U. This was based on the amount of traffic into the MU and the lack of traffic coming out!Mainly Hunters and possibly Javelins if my memory serves me well!!

    Air Inter Caravelle

I think this was the airline ?I flew in a Caravelle once from Marseille to Paris and was astonished to find that the seats in front faced me !So you could hold a conversation with the people in front! This would have been about 1978.

    Brittania

Actually I think it was a British United Airways,it was a special charter flight originating from Kuching via Butterworth(where I joined). It was on the ground for about 4 hours with an engine fault then we set of for Bombay, had a lightning strike in a good tropical storm which did something to a door and the cabin filled with condensation for several minutes!!Arrived Bombay and the same engine required attention again, finally left and landed Istanbul late afternoon where the engine gave up!As it was a trooping flight the local Turkish police were not happy and we were all guarded and taken to a hotel for the night!Left for heathrow next morning on the same plane and arrived on a very cold december day,16th if I remember correctly!Interesting flight!!

    Avpin

Did many Avpin starts on mk9 Hunters at Ksar.one day we were towing a drum of Avpin back from stores in an Aden Gun trolley when we were flagged down by another driver”ere mate theres sparks coming from your load!”What had happened was the gun trolley hydraulic arm leaked and the assembly had lowered causing the Avpin drum to contact the road! The ridges on the 45 gallon drum where very shiny in places! If it had ignited ,well ,I and others wouldnt be around!!
