    War diary

    That certainly made interesting reading.I was suprised at the number of raids that occured.I knew Amble was hit several times,my mum told me!!Finding info on the marine section is proving difficult .I remember at least three launches with (I think)three engines each.

    I had (in1997)an Audi Avant estate with the 2.2 Litre 5cyl engine.Best tourer I ever had,commuting from Plymouth to Liverpool each week it was superb and was a 1987 model with over a 100,000 on the clock!!!

    Amble Air Sea rescue

    Lived there from (born)1942 until leaving for the midlands in 1954 and I do remember playing on the launches!!Private message for any more on this,I still have contactsin Amble.

    Air sea rescue

    I grew up in Amble and there certainly was an air sea rescue station there.It was opposite the harbour on the north shore and there was a concrete slipway up to a maintenance shed.Also moored near bye were three(possibly more) launches ,I have been on them!I was about 7/8 at that time but remember them well.Tried to get info on a Air /Sea rescue association site but no answer.

    As an expat Northumbrian I would be interested in your book!!Ilived in Amble near Acklington and went to many B of B days as a youngster.Dont forget the Air/Sea Rescue station in Amble !Sorry no photos for you couldnt afford a camera then!

    There may be none in Vietnam but take a look at Laos,Vienteinne airport has a few and also Xieng Khouang(19geg 26min North 103deg 09 min East on Google earth) at least they look like Sukhois,maybe they came from China?

    My boss on the link trainer at Oakington was master pilot(warrant officer)Boyes,he to was a dakota pilot at Arnhem and lost his glider to anti aircraft guns,his aircraft was also hit and he was injured and crashed on his return.dont know any other details as this was dragged out of him!A nicer man you could not meet.

    There is the AEW 2 AT St Mawgan as gate guardian,it has partly been restored a s a MKII,of course St Mawgan could be shut down and what then!!Cold war at Cosford without a shack is …….!

    I worked for Brooklands aviation at Chilbolton and one of the aircraft I worked on was the blind landing Varsity!Remember it as it had lots of odd equipment in it.I was an electrician recently out of the RAF!!

    Reverse thrust

    I think the Beverlies also could reverse the prop pitch to slow down,also they could reverse while parking!!

    Didnt know there were so many around!!I recall as a mature student in1986/7 seeing an Anson on a queen mary at a scrapyard just north of Portsmouth(have a photo somewhere),also inside the main storage shed a merlin(I think )with camouflage paint on the cowlings, it was on a stand .Anyone know anything about these?
