Time to rename this thread perhaps and doctor Bluey’s first posting to avoid confusion?
Before becoming too excited and pinning a date, you might want to give the chaps at the YAM a call. Elvington is not ordinarily open to airborne visitors, although I am sure that they would have no problem with a small fly-in.
Elvington, with a visit to the museum, might be a good outing.
Knowing that 04 was long enough (are you serious?) for the JP to land (you are kidding me – arn’t you?)
I might well be! 10 was our only option, and the JP does exceptionally well in a crosswind.
Janie. The correct answer is to take it onto 04, knowing that the strong winds will assist in your braking process, and that the runway available vastly exceeds that required. Had I realised how helpful the wind would have been, I might have been tempted to take the JP onto 04, rather than dealing with the 18-20 kt crosswind on 10. 😉
Ozplane, I’m afraid we’re going to have to have a little chat next time we meet. Your aircraft would definitely benefit from velvet curtains around the cockpit. Preferably drawn 🙂
Wolverhampton is fine (obviously can’t tempt you to any real cross-country flying yet Bluey!) The food was OK-ish but nothing special the last time I went there.
Name your date – the sooner the better. I’m sure I shall be able to find a willing victim to come along with me.
Nice shots Neal H! I didn’t spot you crossing the runway for our departure 🙂
Janie. You were welcome to the fashion advice. Green is so YOU! Next time though darling, lets talk beforehand to try and make sure that we don’t end up coming in the same frock 🙂 We don’t want to look like a job-lot.
Bluey, Anywhere with 1000m or thereabouts of reasonable quality tarmac would do the job nicely for me. Much less than that, and I would be forced to resort to a piston-powered beastie. Perhaps you might even get it up yourself for the next one?
I had Moggy sling the anchor out on short final. That normally does the trick 😉
Lovely to meet people and put some faces to names. A good turn-out for a February Fly-in 😀
A sprinkling of snow and rain during the night, but tomorrow will be SCT-BKN020 after 9 or 10 with steady North-Easterlies at 15-20 knots.
Looking forward to seeing Leicester.
I look forward to seeing the evidence. Google doesn’t look hopeful. The world assocates Bob Hoover with the Shrike Aerocommander.
I have had the pleasure of sitting in Bob’s Aerocommander, still a fine aircraft, after all those adventures. I have also got over 500 hours in AC12s and AC14s (The other kind of Commanders) so I reckon I can tell the difference too 😀
I suspect some confusion here between Rockwell Commander and Shrike Aerocommander.
I think I had reached the conclusion that the font size was chosen for the benefit of Vintage Pilots. 😀
The new site comes up first for me too. Much prettier it is too… all except for that cheap looking winged-V that looks as though it was produced at much too low a resolution by somebody using Microsoft Paint.
