Make sure you do not park anywhere near the crash gate at the end of the road though.
No, I was parked well away from the crash gate. Quite funny really, within 15mins of me being there, 2 airport police cars turned up. They had a good look, then drove off round by the crash gate.
Only been to the area at Belmer Road once, will have to go again and walk further up to where you took the pics. It’s quite a good location there.
I really should go more often as Stansted is literally 35mins down the road from me.
Most were taken from the mound near the the fire training place that you describe. The light there is only good for photography in the late afternoon/evening. There is some fencing there which has mostly fallen down. I go there regularly, as do many others and have never been challenged or chased away. Security sometimes take the registrations of the cars parked in the lane but other than that they leave you alone. I know of some other spots for shooting planes on approach to Stansted in the morning near Molehill Green for 23 and Takeley for 05. I can send you more info on these if you are interested.
Is this the mound off Belmer Road? As I was going to ask, do you need a stepladder for those shots that you took?, and if so, what size of ladder…:D
I’ve been to the end of Green Street when they’ve been landing on 23. That’s quite a good spot. Had no trouble from the police there either after two of their cars appeared…:o
Excellent photos there. Makes a refreshing change to see some unusual angles.
Yeah sure, no worries. 😉 The key to Photoshopping is with layers. Heres a few quick pointers on how to do this:
– Make two layers (one with colour, one without).
How do you do this? Open up your image and get the cropping and any re-sizing done first. After you’re happy with it – press CTRL+A, then CTRL+C, then CTRL+V. This has copied and pasted a new layer on top of the original shot.
– Desaturate
To take the colour out you can either make the saturation -100, or use the ‘desaturate’ option: (in PS CS2: Image/Adjustments/Desaturate).
– Expose colour
Now the top layer is B & W, you can cut out the desired bits by using the ‘Lasso Tool’. Just follow the edges carefully and then join it up to where you started. After you’ve made a shape around the whole tail – press delete and this will expose the colour on the first layer.
Hope that all makes sense. If not, drop me a PM and I’ll send you some screenshots.
Cheers,
Alex
Just tried that in Paintshop Pro X2, works a treat…:D
And it’s a bit unnerving the first time you come flying out the tunnel and get confronted with the thing straight in front of you as if it’s taking off right over your’re head 😮
Im flying with this on 1st Nov from Heathrow to bangkok then Taipei and on to Brisbane. In the 747-400 then the A330-200.
Some of my clients use Business Class or Premium Econmy (sp) on Eva Air. They’ve had no complaints. They still keep going back to them, so they must be okay.
Just be prepared for the chaos that is Terminal 3.
Jennifer Ellison, now I wouldnt mind that but Jade Goody???? NOOOOOO!!!!!
Exactly, I think Monarch should pay the passengers if Jade Goody is going to be the celeb…
Just curious, how many % wise do you achieve of good printable flying photos at an air show
Simon:cool:
At the moment, 1%…:o
Still trying to get to grips with the DSLR.
Thanks for the comments. I’ll try altering the shutter speed next time I’m down at Duxford for some practice, and boy do I need it…:o
how close were the B-17’s and what escort did they have.
Just for you…
Apolgies for the crap photo, I’m still trying to get to grips with the camera and failing miserably (sp)
In my opinion, fantastic! !
Not in my opinion, it just didn’t seem as intense as past Legends. Maybe because we’ve lost some excellent types overseas over the past few years, dunno, prehaps it’s because I’m spoilt with DX being only 10mins down the road from me. Or maybe it was because some of the types were down at Fairford-by-the-sea.
Saying that, weather was fantastic, breeze getting in and out. Joined FOD, why I didn’t join earlier, gawed knows…:o
Plenty of traders to pinch you’re hard earned money and nice to see the Guinot girlies again….:D
Nice shot of Pink Lady. Must admit, she did seem to be mowing the grass at times….:D
I like the 5th shot, looks good.
I’m having trouble mastering my DSLR, all my flying shots are coming out blurred. Oh well, more practice…:o
Cracking photos as always.
I was there too, I’m obviously doing something wrong with my camera as none of mine came out like that…:(
Excellent shots there.
I saw both of them flying round the M11 near to Madingley late yesterday afternoon. Even the traffic on the M11 was slowing down to watch.
Just departed with P51 in hot pursuit!
Both have just flown over Melbourn, loverly sound and sight…:D
