458 finale on 12th dec was a day of high drama, noise, a awsome display of power with everyone high on adrenaline
unfortunately after one touch of the button start we lost the no 1 reheat on first run with lost of foward inertial chute failed to deploy, but after a ear spliiting stactic reheat with no 1 reheat back to full health now she was ready for the second run in the twilight where dennis gave us all a truly awsome display of power with two magnificent reheats and a good chute i will look forward to seeing you all again in 2010
happy new year best regards russell carpenter

458 cranfield lightning
458 on saturday was was washed, cleaned, and polished, ready for this saturdays high speed runs if you would like to see 458 first high runs in 2009 you can still join us as there are still a few places left send me a message for details russell
hi graham well you have to appriciate that cranfield is a caa airfield so i have to adhere to the rules but proberly i would say 12 and over is ok i hope that answer your question russell
hi graham im so please you enjoyed your day with the t5 team and as you know it was a really special day for me for the first time in 7 years i sat in the r/h seat during a stactic engine run with john my chief engineer and i got to start number two engine the feeling of such incredible awsome power is unbeliveable when put into reheat i must do this more often i look foward to seeing you on the 25th where again i can promise you a truly entertaining t5 day russell
hi peter we do give a lot care and special attention in between runs as she is kept out side under water proof covers but the component that we give most attention to is our onboard batterys without these being 100% you will always have problems starting but stactic running of the engines and reheats will excise and excite the aircraft symstems and also help to diagnose faults
hope this helps you russell carpenter
I have asked before but is there anywhere that has a calender of the Lightning runs as i am (just) old enough to remember them flying at Cranfield and would love to see one scream down the runway again.
I only live about 4 miles away so getting there is no problem but do you still have to sneak between the hangars to get to the apron unobserved (or was that just air show days?).
Either way a sight to behold.
