It did but apparently it was only a minor issue and wasn’t delayed long, these things happen.

Canada is sending a C17 as well now.

I could see the UK deploying Sentinel as it was so useful over Libya, again they need to reverse the SSDR decision to drop it as the type is proving too useful! Looking at events in Mali the Sentinel R1 looks tailor made to help out, considering how mobile the rebel forces are proving Sentinel could greatly help the French strike bombers identify targets.

According to french television (france2) Britain will send intelligence assets like Drones.

Europe is well behind the curve on stealth, even if you ignore the US. Russia and China both are advancing stealth aircraft designs to full production while most of Europe is only just now starting to make a real effort to mature the necessary technologies.

The notion that Europe are long behind the competition are simply not based on reality. Just because they have not decided to field stealth aircrafts jet does noe mean they do not master stealth.

Just look at the ships they build for their navies or at vlo cruise missilles. The worlds biggest and most advanced RCS ranges are on the european continent, and both Japan and South Korea has used these facilities, and the expertice of european engineers.

    Some intereseting features:

2006 release notes that nEUROn will be a demonstrator measuring 10 m long by 12 m wide and weighing in at 5 tons. This is roughly the size of a Mirage 2000 fighter.

The aircraft will have unmanned autonomous air-to-ground attack capabilities with precision guided munitions, relying on an advanced stealth airframe design to penetrate undetected.

Another feature being contemplated is the ability to control squad flight in automatic mode from an advanced fighter like the Rafale or JAS 39 Gripen platform, grouping the nEUROns and controlling the group in a manner similar to many combat real-time strategy computer games.

From what I understand article 5 only covers countries on the european and north-american continent, so therefor only article 4 can be used in this case.

To stay on topic I’d say Rafale’s OSF, but there might be other dual band IRST systems I’m not aware of out there.

The Rafale OSF does not have an ir channel, and obiously not two.

the reason so much is missing might be because of classified information, as this report was probably given to the different contenders.

what the report does not calculate are costs. The question is, whats better 16 Rafales vs 22 Gripens.

as a relative small country with allot of dificult terrain the more senstive and felxible PESA might be better suited compared to a longer range captor?

It is true that it looks consitant with the report leaked to swiss press. And they migh have translated it to an english version for the constructors. But theres no way for us to know for certain.

Interesting thing from the report. The Swiss seems to be very happy with upgrades on their F-18s, especially combination HMD + Aim-9X. (Do we have any more info on these updates) If Rafale is sold to the UAE the swiss will receive it with 18 more upgrades then if not sold.

from the looks of it, the HMD in the F-18s seems to have been a good investment.

Out of the 108 aircraft, at least 40 will arrive from France, in the form of kits etc. If the number goes up to 189 and the IAF asks for quick delivery, as they did with the Su30MKI, then the number of kits could go up to 60-70 airframes, with the rest of the 110 built with Indian materials.

All in all, the French companies will receive a windfall from this deal, not to mention the huge moolah they will make off spares for the initial 10 odd years, plus the weaponry and ground handling equipment.

Thales, Safran and Dassault execs are all probably chuckling to themselves over how 2012 has turned out for them.

do you have any links that back up these claims?

The point is because of the Indian’s govt closes, most supplier of the Rafale for India will have to be in India… So the little enterprises and suppliers in Europe and US will might see little of the contract long term. Only Dassault, Thales, Safran, Sagem will be able to keep the sensitive high tech skills that India will take time to learn. So I understand that no everybody is as happy as Dassault is right now, but that is still a good new for the country. Unfortunatly many people see this as Dassault’s family making profit for themselves and getting the tax money for nothing. These same people would have put the country on strike had France bought the Typhoon + F 35 combo…

Most parts will probably be sold from european and american supliers while the rest will be produced at Thales and Dassaults subsidiaries in India like allot of other military equipment. The offset deal said that between 35 – 40 % hade to be reinvested in the indian economy.

You really think the french are just going to give away the airplane? really? did you see the mirage upgrade deal?
