Apologies for the rant but that is how I feel I just think it shows lack of respect across the board on this what is supposed to be a solemn occasion.
Scotavis- I think I hit the point spot on but no disagreement with your later sentence, both my grandfathers fought and you are quite correct all fought for freedom of choice amongst other reasons, my point was that it shows little respect to those who had their lives taken and the veterans who survived by turning up at an occasion such as this. It is supposed to mark the 75th anniversary of this most pivotal battle of WW2 and for want of a better phrase to stamp your feet to show who you are by not engaging in the Nat Anthem or looking like a scruff was in my opinion disrespectful, especially when your supposed to be someone who actually has high respect for the military or your in the public eye with the ever present paparazzi watching and reporting and if I can see you can bet your life they and other definitely can.
trekbuster- How do you work that out then ? Was it the way I dare speak my mind about how at a solemn occasion such as today should be shown the utmost respect especially by those mentioned or was the way in which I dare have a different opinion from someone else such as example yourself ? I would have more respect for those who I had mentioned if they had shown more self respect, as far as I am concerned every personal grievance at this type of very solemn occasion should be left outside the door that includes Colour/Race/Religion/Politics etc.etc. I would have thought you all bond in unity not carrying any grievance you have against whatever or whoever into wherever at the least dress the part and go with the flow if only for the service in this case. If you cannot do this then decline the invitation simple. Maybe it’s just me but this was how I felt when I saw what I commented on nothing more nothing less.
Wings43- Who said anything about having stubble is offensive to veterans ? read my post properly I never said that at all. Not singing a national anthem is politically motivated as far as I am aware (Please correct if wrong) but a choice none the less, like I already mentioned above all that bo11ocks should be left behind outside it has no place what so ever in a remembrance service. Again where did I say it was offensive to veterans ? it just shows lack of respect from whoever is the one not going with the flow. If that is how some people truly see these type of events why bother attending them when you know there will obviously be singing of the Nat Anthem and everybody dressed in Sunday best for want of a better analogy ?
Only an idiot with there own agenda would criticize singing of the Nat Anthem when it’s meant to be part of a remembrance service, it’s just going with the flow nothing more nothing less. As for principles then either leave them outside or do not attend if they are that strongly felt simple, there is a time and place for principals and politics and a remembrance service is definitely not the place.
As far as it goes it was my observations of what I saw on the BBC and various articles on the web that I read, I was just gob smacked when I noticed all of which I put in my post and was a personal opinion. As for the veterans I dare say you are correct they will be proud of today who wouldn’t be they are the last of a dying breed of true heroes and nothing anybody can say or do will ever take that away even when the last of these gentlemen pass away.
I am sorry it does not fit into other peoples views, like life in general everybody is different so are their feelings and opinions. As far as opinions go they are like noses and backsides everybody has one and they are all different, if I can a not very intelligent person accept that my opinion has no more importance than any other then why can’t others do the same when they are obviously far more superior to my intellect ?
Moggy-Sorry but he never served in combat enlisted with the RAF he was Army/Air-Core and he is to be admired for his work that he has done for charity.
