Social security and Health care roll out at @ 260 billion this year alone, construction of CVF is around 500million a year. Have a look under the cushions of the NHS sofa the small change you find there will pay for CVF

uk public spending will be @ 7000 billion over the next decade cutting CVF wont make a jot of difference to my tax bill, I’ll have to pay for it any way. Since I’m paying I would like to actually see to ships and not a pissing great payment to BAE share holders and no ships! In the same time scale the Goverment want to put the worlds biggest tidal barrage in to the bristol channel at 20 bilion. Cut that ******!

Looks like an evolution of the BAE design seen earlier. The rear phalanx seems poorly sighted with a blind spot to port, a 76 which has to be a **** poor idea, CODAG and has lost the 23’s magazine lunched torpedos for some cheapo deck mounted idea.

Colombamike why all the smiles plastered over your reply about CVF? Its great they wont be built? Hilarious 10,000 will be out of a job and the uk ship building will disappaer? Your really pleased the RN will be destroyed? how is any of that funny?

    Thank you Jonesy!

What ever carrier it is people have this problem of looking at it and saying “it dosn’t look like a nimitz so it isn’t any good”. Look at what the ship is required to do and see if it fulfils it!

    Hi wanshan

I have spent the last 20 minutes trying to find that picture of shefield/williams. I guess thats a new mount where the forward sea wolf mount was but the torpedo tubes are in the wrong place. Help! 🙁

Any “colonial” term were now TOTALLY OBSOLETE
Colonial cruisers or “Gunboat policies” were well know in the 18-until mid 19 th century

I prefer the “Presence Ships” or “Projection ships” or “Avisos” (or eventually Littoral Combat Ships), terms more appropriate for a navy with use warships to presence or maintain sovereignity in OVERSEAS territory…

The problem with absalon is that they are intended to be flexible, modular Officially …. It must be able to do everything, but ultimately she can not do anything
    – Not a good ASW platform
    – Not a good AAW platform
    – Not a good Amphibious platform
    – Too big (6000 tons) and expensive (500 million € ?) to be a cheap big OPV*

    * Generally a big (1200/2500 tons) OPV cost around 100/180 million €

For the Danish Fleet, better to use a cheaper OPV
Look newer big danish OPV intended for use in artic water

Yes for High-end ships (AAW cruisers, AAW/ASW destroyers/frigates

Yes for Low-end ships (Avisos, Corvettes, Light armed light frigate, OPV (Offshore patrol vessesl), MPV (Medium shore patrol vessel), IPV (Inshore patrol vessel))

But I doubt for the “Mid”-end ships usefull
It must be able to do everything, but ultimately she can not do anything
    😉

Yes but what happens when your unarmed OPV runs up against something with a gun on it? It runs away if it can or gets sunk. The F125 kicks **** and needs a very high end warship to deal with it. The type of ship may countrys don’t own. Hmmmm should I have typed something in CAPITAL letters? Just jokin

Swerve thats the first time I have heard anyone but myself use that term but its exactly the sort of ship navys need to be building. Hve a core of hi end war fighting ships and then some colonial crusers to do any policing work required at much cheaper cost, the F125 being an good example

    Wanshan, Zebedee, both correct.

Elsewhere, it has been identified as one of the aft sections of HMS Duncan D37, 6th T-45 destroyer.

Its the only one still under construction?

True that isn’t one of the requirements but I hope they look into the concept it would be very bad if the RN got into a situation where a T45 had to go into a hostile coastal environment just to provide naval bombardment.

You send your 23 or its replacement as the most expensive 23 was @£186m and 45 is nicely over £1bilion a unit. I havent made adjustments for current £values but you get my idea!

HMS Edinburgh makes naval history as last of Type 42 destroyers to undergo upkeep period

HMS Edinburgh in dry dock, Portsmouth

HMS Edinburgh has entered the dry dock in Portsmouth for a major overhaul under a £17.5 million contract with BAE Systems. As the last of the Type 42 destroyers to undergo an upkeep period, the move marks the end of a successful maintenance schedule for the Class that began in 1979.

The 30 year old vessel will be returned to the fleet in October 2010 as a greener, more efficient ship and will sail on until 2013.

Edinbourgh was the only 42 with a fence round the bow and also had a phalanx just aft the 4 5. later refitted with a pair port and starboard amidships. Would expect there would be plenty of seadart rounds left taking into account the number of seadart equipt ships that have left service recently and that some 2000 rounds were produced
