I’ll be sure to have a good laugh when some Brits die in Afghanistan then too, you’d like that wouldn’t you? Seriously. . .

    ———

The Russian Navy isn’t meant to fight wars near South America, it’s meant as a short to medium range deterrent force. . .

What deployable assets does the RN have that can’t be matched by the Norhern Fleet? It’s air arm is pitiful, Kuznetsov by itself could handle the 2 carriers that the RN could deploy in terms of air cover!

Now what is the RN going to deploy?

The Type 45 is about the only “armed” surface vessel in the entire fleet!

    Let’s see:

Some Harrier carrying CVs, a single quality destroyer, some Victor III level SSNs, and a whole load of ships armed with a handful of harpoons!

Against about 2 regiments worth of Backfires, Tu-142 recon aircraft, the Kuznetsov, a Kirov and a Slava cruiser, a mix of Udaloy and Sovremenny destroyers, a whole load of Victor III/Akula/Sierra II and Oscar II subs, not to mention a whole load of Kilo SSKs, plus whatever light attack corvettes they can muster.

The sheer number of SSNs and SSKs give the RN no chance, coupled with the amount of Granits in the force, good luck to the RN Jonesy!

yes but which ships do you have that would trouble the RN????

Come on guy’s we all know how massively powerfull the Russian militry is. The huge modern concentrated Russian navy would brush NATO aside, we’re all lucky they don’t decide to do so. As for the USN what a joke, better stay with site of the US mainland in case the couple of operating Russian SSN’s decide to play up, after all the USN only have 300 or so operating ships all inferior to Russian units. As for the RN, better just open the stop cocks and scuttle in portsmouth:)

Hmmmmm Senior soldier says that the army needs expanding, more training , more fancy gear and greater numbers, the air force needs cas but no penitration and the navy can just disapear up its own a!!! so no prejudice there then.

Wow thanks! I’m sure Australia’s current massive amada of SSN’s and attack carriers would be a huge boost to the USN. They probably would no londger need a pacific fleet!

Looking back on the Astute project, the @10 year gap in orders created huge problems, yes guy’s could sit a computers and design the boat but when it came to actualy cutting metal and screwing it together things didn’t work out so well.

I thought the Vanguard class also had pump jet as well

I thought the swiftsures (comissioned 73-81)were completed with pump jets, D K brown suggests so in his book rebuilding the royal navy.
