If I remember correctly the Chinese government put serious poltical pressure on the Netherlands to cut the number of Zwaardvis subs for Taiwan from 4 to 2.
If I were to guess I would say the answer to all your questions is money. The French Navy just doesn’t have the money to operate her. Her age is another factor and the French apparently think the PA2 deal will happen.
Are there any plans for more than two Boomers to be built in Russia with this new missle?
Just a little curious about the latter part of this statement. I thought the HIND was not preferred for troop insertion operations in the field due to a hovering issue or something?
News to me.
… guess you’ll just have to keep thinking everything made in Russia is crap and everything made in the US is the best
Apparently you missed the first part of my post so I will use caps lock so you won’t miss it this time:
I WOULD AGREE WITH YOU THAT RUSSIA MAKES SOME VERY GOOD SAM SYSTEMS AND THE US LAGS BEHIND.
Then you type your stupid response as quoted above. You seem to think I’m biased about American military hardware. You apparently haven’t been paying attention to my posts in other threads, some of which you have responded to. I think the Israeli Merkava is better than the M1A1. I think the Su-35/37 is better than the F-15. I have been critical of the F-22, the F-35 and the V-22 in other posts. So where is my bias? You are certainly biased about Russian/Soviet history, politics and military hardware.
Now to show my lack of bias I will now list Russian military hardware that I like and I think don’t suck:
The AK47- who’s out there that thinks this sucks?
The PPS series sub machine gun- equipped whole infantry units with them and the Germans used them.
The Mosin Nagant- nothing wrong with a good old fashioned bolt action rifle.
The T34 tank- nuff said.
The IS2/3 tank- made Tiger and Panther tank crew’s buttcheeks pucker when they spotted them.
The later series of Yak and La prop fighters- kept the Luftwaffe out of the air.
The Il-2 ground attack aircraft- nuff said.
The Pe-2 fighter bomber- the “Russian Mosquito”
The Tu-2 bomber- good medium bomber.
The MiG15- made us rush to get the F86 into production now, didn’t it?
The MiG21- gave the US F-4’s problems over Nam.
The Flanker series- they would be the backbone of my air force.
The SA-1 thru XXX SAM systems- they would protecting my Merkava’s on the battlefield.
The Su-24 Fencer-handled better than our F-111
The Su-25 Frogfoot- the modern Il-2
The MiG-27 Flogger- I hear Russia’s air force miss this aircraft.
The Tu-16/22M/95 bombers- with those big carrier killing missles slung underneath gave the US Navy something to think about.
The Mil-24 Hind- good blend of firepower and troop carrying ability.
I have no problem giving credit where credit is due with the military hardware of ANY nation. I would also add that South Africa’s Denel Corp makes some of the best artillery out there (I’d put a T5 turret on a Merkava chassis) and South Korea and Japan have excellent defense industries.
I’m being sarcastic at times when I post on threads that I think have become “mine’s bigger than your’s” contest and when posters take themselves WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too seriously. So lighten up Francis.
Looks like we have someone who’s a legend in his own mind here folks.
Not to mention the only man that kept Al Quada out of Iraq… til US forces turned it into Afghanistan with more roads.
You know I would agree with you on the point that Russia makes some very good SAM systems and the US lags behind but when you make the above statement you just keep losing cool points with me. Not to mention crediblity.
u can always research newer technologies and keep on implementing to traditional ships (as has been done)…
I agree, not only with warships but with all weapon systems. i.e. update the F-15 (like they have done with the F-16) and F-14 while researching new technologies so that when the tech is ready then you build the F-22 the F-35 and the NATF. I believe that’s how the Soviet Union did their R and D.
Another over ambitious, ultra expensive program that has expended millions of dollars and we haven’t even cut steel yet. With the Army’s Future Combat System, Comanche, and the Crusader, along with the Air Force’s F-22, B-2, F-35, throw in the A-12 and the Marine’s V-22, the Pentagon seems more concerned with keeping the defense contractors happy rather than making sure the troops in the field get the equipment they need now rather than 20 years down the road.
Ican’t get into the forum either.
Ican’t get into the forum either.
along with 31 new T-90’s, 7 helicopters, 1 Tu-160, 8 other jets of various makes and models and 125 BTR’s plus 6 satellites and 12 launch vehicles. Also, over 50 helicopters will be upgraded along with over 100 jets, 139 tanks and some 125 self propelled guns will reciece new computers, targeting systems and navigation gear.
Russia is set to procure more than France in 2006.
How the mighty have fallen. During the days of the Soviet Union the above list would show what their military would get for each month.
What an awsome site! I still wish they had the Tomcats onboard.
Right now folks its just too early to say what she’s going to be. She’s been sitting for three years so they have a ton of cleaning up and refurbishing to do before they start hanging electronics on the mast and putting weapons on her or sticking giant Mickey Mouse ears on her island with “Its a Small World’ music pipped through the speakers, with 24 hour gambling and live nude girls inside.
Very nice website you have there its been added to my favorites.
